Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

  • Found the app a bit of a crashfeast to be honest.

That’s a shame. I was hoping all the recent updates would’ve addressed that.

Lost interest. Too much like work.

Right now I’m good with AUM and a few AU apps, FLSM, and DawnBeat.

What would you say are the benefits of FLSM over other similar apps?

For my way of working it’s the closest to NS2 with audio tracks. Check out the FLSM-specific threads. Some love it and some hate it!

Thanks! I’ll definitely read into those. It’s one of those apps that I’ve always had in the back of my mind, I just have so many DAW type apps. CB3, GB, Zenbeats, Tunemaker, Drambo, etc. But it does seem to have some unique aspects and I know it has had a huge following for so long now.

Once I whittle down my to buy list (or there’s a sale) I might take the plunge. I never had NS2 so I have no frame of reference there. I don’t usually venture outside of GB, CB3, and Zenbeats if I want a DAW workflow

  • How’s Vatanator Pro looking these days? Still crashy, or fixed? Anybody super into it and using it a lot?

I probably break it out every few weeks and always have fun when I do. It was very crashy at first but for the last 6 months or so it’s been pretty stable for me overall. I’m not doing anything super intensive but I don’t think I’ve had a crash that few times I’ve used it. I think it’s a pretty fun app overall and I enjoy using it more than BM3.

  • Released one year ago and still no coverage on yt makes me wonder why this app went by so quietly!?

  • Does anyone knows if you chain songs with Vatanator for live use?

It has a live loop mode, a single song mode, and you are able to swap between songs in a list. When you swap between songs you must wait for it to load your project.

As for crashyness.. from my experience sometimes it can lock up when loading some auv fx

  • Curious about this due to the sale, seems like a lot of comparisons to BM3 which I use a lot. The drum processing and ring mod sounds very cool. Should i take the plunge? Does anyone use this regularly and can recommend it?

Not sure what the sale price is but I’ve had it - almost - since release. It was very buggy at launch but the developers have really put in the work to make it more stable. Still have the occasional crash or freeze (mostly when dealing with AUV3s) but it doesn’t happen often. Workflow is very quick and fun. Easy to get something going. And it just has a sound. Lofi, warm, vintage. The built in effects are really nice and there are a lot of cool distortion types. Also the best repeat and pitch wheel are super fun since you can record that as automation into the sequence as you play.

In the sampling side I’d say it’s not quite as in depth as BM3 and isn’t quite as “full” if that makes sense. But I find it quicker to dial things in and a more fun experience overall.

  • @HotStrange thanks for the rundown! Sounds like it might be right up my alley

Lemme know your thoughts if you get it! You’ve inspired me to jump back into again myself. It’s been a few weeks.

Is the developer on the forum? There’s a wrong note on the isomorphic grid keyboard. The C on the bottom right should be an octave higher. The same error exists no matter which range the keyboard is in. The sound of that C note is one octave below the note it should be and the note name is too, as you can see. (Of the two C notes in the bottom right quadrant, it’s the one on the left, actually.)

  • @LeftyChris I think they are but can’t remember the name. They’ve always been responsive to me over emails though so I’m sure you could reach them that way.

Thanks very much - I’ll send them an email about it. Actually, I will also ask them if they can add a full screen version of that isomorphic grid keyboard too, since the current one is a bit small.

👍🏻 lemme know how it goes. They seem like pretty decent dudes.

I heard back from the developer and he said they’d look into the wrong note problem and he even said they’d consider adding a full screen mode for the isomorphic grid keyboard, so that’s awesome. I responded and haven’t heard back to that response in a couple of weeks, but that probably doesn’t mean anything.

Full screen isomorphic keyboard would be an awesome update! Thanks, hopefully that’ll Coen to fruition.
