Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Download on the App Store

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

    True!

Can I record automation parameter with Midi tape recorder in the same midi recording? First I will record just the midi data and afterwards in within the same recording, just the automation? Or it is one take for both, midi notes and parameter automation

    MIDI Tape records everything as-is.
You might consider using 2 instances of MTR if you plan to add automation in another take.

  • Is there some sort of “live mode” I can set where my stupid fat fingers don’t delete things by mistake or double click knobs? It would help me out, I’m very clumsy

    No.

There are things you can do though, such as setting up sliders to control knobs on modules rather than controlling on the modules themselves. That isn't simple to set up though, but can be worth it in some cases.

This is a thing I've been interested in as well.

The strategy I've come up with to sidestep the problem is to map everything to knobs/buttons and hide the upper knobs/buttons. That way your buttons/knobs are farther from the top of the module, and you are unlikely to delete something. I've also just done more mapping to midi controllers.

Thanks! I’ll try mapping some controls!

  • Nice little trick @qqq. I didn’t know that i could hide certain knobs i compact view. Thanks 😎

  • can someone help me understand how to hot swap rack and/or track presets?
i'd like to be able to define what preset to use on a given track via clip parameter locks.
if possible, i'd also like to be able to map different presets to a hardware midi controller, so that i can swap racks on the fly.

i tried searching here, youtube & the manual and i cannot find a clear guide on this topic.

    thanks!

    I don't think that's possible.

  • ooooh darn! well.. i suppose i'll just have to build a complex rack with a bunch of instruments and switch between them & hope my ipad can handle it.

AFAIK it's currently not possible to MIDI map the rack preset change buttons. Otherwise, it would be possible to MIDI map it and control the preset change via MIDI feedback input set as CONTROL and then automate it e.g. via the note triggers.
In case you just want different variations of the same set of modules, I recommend trying to use the Morph module. With a single knob, you can completely change the settings of modules (similar to morph scenes, but scoped to a single track).
If the rack contents differ, you may try to use (surprisingly) a Punch-in FX module. It works not only for processing, but also for generating the sound. You can load each presets in separate FX slot and simply switch between them by sending the corresponding note to Punch-in FX. The problem here is that if you want to use sequencer to also play the notes by the instrument, they'll conflict with the "switching" notes. You can use an extra track that will be used only for switching and route accordingly, or somehow transform automation into notes etc.
The benefit with using Punch-in FX is that all the presets are already loaded, so you avoid some clicks and pops on switching, also you can even set the transition times when switching.
Not so straightforward, but once set up, it will do the job.

  • Hey Drambonaughts.

    A question about scenes.
**What I want to achieve: **
Use a step condition to select scenes on the buttons to the left and right.
Then i want to map the crossfader and the clip selection buttons to a footswitch and a expresson pedal.

    This is my challange

The midi mapping works perfectly fine.
But i can’t get the scene selection with the sequencer and step conditions to work at all.
I set up some step conditions but nothing happens.

    Hi all :)
I’m not sure if any of you are allowed to speak about this, but are there any plans for a wavetable editor in the near future?

Or does the new ButterSynth has any Synthesis features besides Wavetable edit which Drambo doesn’t have? I can’t think of any so far.(For granular I have Frms, Spacecraft etc.)

  • Drambo can import straight audio files into the wavetable OSC. Also comes bundled with a few very nice ones. With all the wavetable fx I can’t see a need myself for editing wavetables. I mean I can start with a sine then add wavefold, motion, feedback, all modulatable. At that point it doesn’t really matter what wave I started from.

  • Or does it and I’m oblivious?

That's a very good point. Over time, the Wave Effects have become so powerful that even a boring sinewave can now be turned into quite exciting new sounds, modulations included.

  • That reminds me that I was going to experiment with stitching together some of my own wavetables. I'm sure I've got editors on the MacBook that could do it but want to try with one of the iPad audio editors. Anyone have any input as to which, if any, is best / up to the task on iOS?

    @Lorichs
First of all, the Scene step conditions are not meant to control scenes but rather control your sequence, depending on scenes. Scenes and the Scenes Crossfader are at the highest control level, overriding all knobs/buttons/values that are controlled otherwise.
If you want to control Scene settings from steps then you can still do that if you're using a somewhat hacky method:
Reserve a track just for scene control and disable its MIDI input.
Place a MIDI Note Gen module after MIDI2CV and add a MIDI Output module at the end. Choose "MIDI Feedback" as the output port. This will allow you to use your sequencer as Drambo's own remote control.
Now MIDI map the left and right scene buttons and while one of them is enabled, also make sure to map all scene pads to different MIDI notes for remote control. You can use a specific MIDI channel if you want to make sure you'll get no conflicting channels by accident.
Add a Slider+MIDI CC Generator module (and MIDI Mix both) if you also want to p-lock the Scene X-Fader from your sequence.
Note that you need the left of right scene button enabled for scene switching to work.

If anyone is looking for more wavetables, this free collection is extremely handy! https://www.echosoundworks.com/eswcorewavetables . Helps to round out the existing selection in Drambo.

I forget how I found these, so I apologize if I'm just repeating a post someone made previously ;)

  • Thank you @rs2000 @pedro good points on the Audio import and Wave Effects!
Indeed the Wave Effects can even transform a simple sine wave into something else. I’m not sure what more I was expecting from a wavetable editor, I probably was just triggered by a new shiny synth lol. Drambo just never fails to amaze me, such beautiful and powerful piece of software.

    Great find! @qqq

Echo Sound Works make some of the best and most useful wavetables on the market imo, both free and commercial.

It took my a while to get it to work but i think I got it now 😊.
I’ll control the x-fader with a midi expression pedal 😉.

I’m considering to make a feature request. It could be handy if this could be done with step components.

    Thanks again

  • Thanks @Lorichs 😊

  • Hello it is me again

I need some help. I like to play and record moog model 15 with poly key pressure to the the drambo sequencer.
I use a cme Xkey air that has polyphonic after toutch.
I can get it to work with Atom piano roll 2 but i would like to use Drambos sequencer instead. Can it be done😵‍💫

  • Slowly wiping out synths from my device the more time I spend in drambo.. just telling you lol:) could have saved at least 100$ I guess. Prob will erase them all later on.. what a great piece of software!

Drambo's sequencer won't record this kind of information as of now. Poly pressure would need to be editable as well and that's rather low priority compared to the many other feature requests. Sorry to disappoint.

  • @rvr @rs2000
    Thanks for you reply.
I’m not disappointed. I’m happily surprized that i’m not stupid 😄

Is there a way to airdrop a preset track save ( not a drambo project ) to another drambo ipad.

To bypass sending auv3 fx presets, saved in the apps ( unless its easier )

    My case.

Aum. Usb to other ipad Drambo. Where a send effect will be on signal. Use Neon to record the aum audio (aum side ) It will be without effects.

The Drambo ipad for a while would then have just been to test the effect on the audio.

The neon audio would then send to a 3rd ipad and the fx preset applied.

It would then be sent to the 2nd ipad.

The 3rd ipad is just temp arrangement and to free cpu from 2nd ipad until the other tracks on that ipad are also made audio.

These stems could actually be left on 3rd ipad but its a line input so not as silent as usb.

    I always complicate the question.

    Which is.

How do I send au fx saves to another ipad?
