Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

iPad case to avoid overheating

I just bought a new iPad to use mainly for music production. I have done most of my previous music on my iPhone, which I take out of its case if I plan on using heavy processing apps. Have you all had issues with iPads overheating and throttling cpu while using a case? Does it even make a difference? Anyone have recommendations for minimalist cases that are breathable? Thanks!

  • Probably a stupid question but simply taking it out of the case is not an option?

  • iPad don’t overheat that much comparing to iPhone, and almost don’t throttle in my experience. That being said very thick cases are not recommended in hot environment and hard on ressources apps setups. I use a M1 in Smart Cover and most of the time it’s barely warm.

Since this iPad is only for music production, I would sooner just not buy a case (if overheating were an issue) then to take it out every time I want to use it.

Thanks. My guess was that iPads handle processing better than phones regarding heat production, but I didn’t want to assume.

  • I think it’s still good advice to have it out of its case when charging.

  • I don't have any heat issues with my iPad 9. Targa case. I don't tend to use it when it's charging though. I guess use and charging in at the same time have an impact?

All my iPads, including my 5th gen 12.9 Pro M1, have lived in the heavy-duty Otterbox cases and I’ve never had issues.

  • Thanks for the feedback everyone. Sounds like overheating isn't as big of a deal as with phones.

I’ve had the same issue with my iPhone overheating when using heavy apps, so I know what you mean. I found that thick cases can trap heat, which isn’t great when you’re running demanding apps like those for music production.

Confirmed. But I must admit that I neither fry tapeworms nor iPads 😉
