What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. What are your must-have sample packs?

edited December 2021 in Other

Hello everyone.

We use different IOS music apps to make our music and I have learned a lot from this forum.

We have a “sample packs sales” topic but this is not what I am talking about. I thought this kind of topic that we recommend our must-have sample packs would be useful for everyone. Wouldn’t be?

Mine:

Sounds of KSHMR vol. 1, 2, 3 / EDM / Royalty Free / Paid

Vol 1: https://www.dharmaworldwide.com/releases/sounds-of-kshmr-vol-1

Vol 2: https://www.dharmaworldwide.com/releases/sounds-of-kshmr-vol-2

Vol 3: https://www.dharmaworldwide.com/releases/sounds-of-kshmr-vol-3

  • Good call. I kinda feel like I have no idea how to use a sampler. Actually, let’s just say that I have a very basic idea of how to use one. In fact, I pretty much use it like an audio editor. Chop the sample down to size and that’s about it. I can’t work out how to, is it beat match? When you have a sample that’s longer or shorter than your bar. Stuff like that. I quite like Sampling as a thing but it’s a bit like watching a video of someone in a sub at the bottom of the ocean. I’d like to go there but it feels like I would need to learn a lot before I even set off.

  • Apart from few BeatHawk packs, I have around 2-3GB of drum hits that I handpicked about 20 years ago. It’s been with me on desktop, on OT (in chains) and on my iPad (hits and chains). I think I’m good for the next 20 years :)

  • My own sample pack i made during last 5-6 years from all HW synths which went through my hands :-D Absolute gold :-D

  • Dirt and Layers, tons of interesting vinyl textures, noises, and beats.

    https://www.goldbaby.co.nz/dirtandlayers.html

Also some of the Noiiz samples Roland sells are way better than I was expecting, especially for the price. And I’m not even into hip hop really.

    https://www.roland.com/us/groovebox/hiphop/noiiz/

  • The Dr Sample pack from Samples From Mars is my most used one probably. I also use Boom Bap Wizardry from Boom Bap Labs a lot for some really crispy stuff

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.

Yeah, basically Sounds of KSHMR 1-3, and Black Octopus' Leviathan 1-3 are all I need for drums in NS2 since I mainly produce EDM. For Ambient, I normally just synthesise whatever drum sounds I need. In Gadget, I stick with the stock drum samples in London and Recife.

  • i love oversampled sample packs.

  • https://samplesfrommars.com The Black Friday All The Samples From Mars package is a must and contains all sorts of things, beautifully recorded. The sale is still on! The Legowelt packs are also excellent IMO http://legowelt.org/samples/

That is a crazy awesome deal, picked it up a couple years and just noticed they have a 2021 top up pack for only 17$ Sweet!

I suppose it depends on the tune I'm working on.

If I'm feeling lazy and need to make an IDM/Glitch/Chiptune kit, I use these -
    1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.

I have the Samples From Mars bundle but rarely use it. Disappointing that nobody nowadays embeds sustaining loops in multi-sample packs. Sure, computers and samplers now have a lot more RAM, disk-streaming, time-stretching, cross-fade looping, etc, but nowadays it's more about size vs efficiency, and the tradeoff now is how well the sampler/computer handles those huge samples, how organized the user is, and if the user understands that disk-streaming, time-stretching, and cross-fade looping uses lots of CPU. And most of the SFM drum samples can be sourced for free from Reverb, Goldbaby, and a million other sample houses, processed with a few FX if required. But I suppose SFM is a great value, if you don't want to dig, kind of like IKM Mixbox as an all-in-one effects suite. 😇

Multi-samples - Camel Audio Alchemy, Dimension Pro, Rapture and all of their soundpacks are still my favorite for multi-samples with sustaining loops and key in sample name. There's over 100GB of WAV/AIFF right there. Or the Sonic Boom or F9 Instruments and Kits for the MPC, with GBs of WAVs for use in other samplers.

Drum One-Shots - Arturia Spark library and its soundpacks have nearly everything, or just search online.

Orchestral - I still use Garritan or samples ripped from Giga, EMU, and Yamaha A-series CDs - they're dated, but I'm not making film scores. Recent discover is https://vis.versilstudios.com/ (GBs of free acoustic instruments, which are used in several commercial products, so do your homework first).

Splice if I'm looking for something specific, but they don't have enough multi-samples - it's mostly loops and song construction kits. Lots of good pads and atmospheric samples though.

Auto-sampling hardware and plugins is an endless source nowadays.

Sample houses come and go like a bag of potato chips. Strange to see the same folks who pirated samplepacks and sold them on Ebay as their own creations 20 years ago are still doing it today, and are still getting away with it.

  • Probably off topic, but I want to stress that besides great samples, the Samples From Mars website, design, presentation and communication is exceptional. They got the best graphic design, detailed explanations with pictures of the gear and notes on the process… their website is truly a joy to visit. Kudos to them.

  • I’ve gotten a lot of mileage out of BlankFor.ms Beats — drum, synth, and piano processed through cassette tapes. Very crunchy and warbly.

I’ve also recently been obsessed with Lullatone Pitch Glock, although I’ve only really used it on the OP-Z. There’s a multi-sampled Ableton rack that I need to try as well.

  • True, for the warbly Boards of Canada stuff, BlankFor.ms, BOCS, and Child of the Corndog are great.

  • +1 for blankform.ms, beautiful tape material.

  • Not exactly a sample pack (a romplepack?) and it was a gamble, but my best purchase over the Black Friday period was the soundfont version of https://www.digitalsoundfactory.com/product/e-mu-proteus-pack/. They are single layer samples I think and so are not going to compete with plugins that go deep with specific instruments but the samples are looped and sound so much better than they should given the total file size. Also being soundfonts they work in lots of places, are easy on the CPU and aren’t going to suddenly stop working one day.

I sold it to myself by asking how much my time was worth putting together my own sample sets from wavs and also how much I had already spent on other iOS romplers with their associated large install footprints and uncertain lifespans.

List of presets at the bottom of this doc: https://www.digitalsoundfactory.com/wp-content/uploads/E-MU-Proteus-Rack-Library-User-Manual.pdf

  • Andi Herzog Vol 1
Beat Butcha - Dangerous Fireworks 4
    Bluetooth Banger - Midwest version
Cookin Soul - Lo Bap Bundle

Boom Bap Labs - Bedroom Beats
    Renraku - Mercurial

    Mobile Music Pro - Essentials 4 Lo-Fi
    Soul Surplus - Somber Soul

Lots of free ones, some paid. In no specific order.

    Samples from mars
    Reverb
    Cymatics
    Slate Digital
Computer music magazine file silo, which unlocks the included samples for each issue you have.
    Landr
    Music Radar aka Sample Radar
    Alesis sample and loop library
    Ghosthack
    Noiiz
    BVKER
    Black Octopus

I should have been more specific, but most stuff from these places is good to go.

  • Have to throw a shameless plug in here :) There's a bunch of great free and premium packs on the MobileMusicPro.com website. The free essential packs even have cubasis mini-sampler presets of the included one-shots. But some sound pack companies that really inspire MMP are cymatics, echo sound works, W.A. productions and Vengeance. Hope this helps :)

Very intriguing! The Proteus Rack / Pack is $99 now - what were they on Black Friday?

    30% off on Black Friday.

  • Wow, what a fantastic deal! I bought it a couple of years ago and just realized they have a 2021 top-up pack for only $17. Sweet!

Another old resurrected thread where things have changed a bit, so here's my updated reply. Okay, so it's no surprise I still use "Sounds of KSHMR" Vol 1-3 and Black Octopus' "Leviathan" 1-3, but since then "Sounds of KSHMR Vol 4" and "Leviathan 4" have been released and I purchased those. From Black Octopus I also now have "Ultimate Bangers & Anthems" as well as the recently-released "Trident Tech" sound pack.

From Image-Line, I started using "Generic Samples", "Real Drumkits", "The Lofi Box", "SFX" and "Super Drums 8000". The first four I believe were discontinued, so now they are my "secret sauce" sound packs for HipHop (including "LoFi") (luckily I can still download them from my account). I know "Super Drums 8000" is available through FL Cloud, but before they were discontinued, I couldn't highly recommend these sample packs enough.

I also use the free KB6 drum machine samples, including the discontinued Roland and Boss ones which I luckily still had on the 2017 iPad Pro. I usually use these samples when creating some sort of French Touch music like Justice. Sometimes I use the Roland 808 and 909 samples for 90s EDM rather than any modern packs.

Samples from Mars packs are all great. Around the holidays the do an everything bundle for like $40-$50 which is a steal for the amount of quality content you get.

Many thanks for your answer. It’s now on my shortlist. Since I have recently bought Algonaut’s Atlas 2, I am looking for sample packs that “fit well” with such kind of tool
