  • Just back from seeing it this eve.
I thought it was a fitting way to end the Craig run although I’m not sure where the franchise can go now.
It will have to be completely rebooted now that he has been killed, unless he happened to have a long lost son who is also called James…
I find it hard to believe that Bond films will be made ad infinitum and I really don’t know what else there is for them to do. Daniel Craig is the longest-serving, and oldest Bond (although he only made 5 films) if you exclude Never Say Never Again and his films straddled the most profound and rapid cultural and technological shifts for decades.

My main criticism is that I thought the villain, whilst superbly acted, and his villainous scheme were the least believable of all the Craig films. Earlier Bonds certainly had more preposterous villains (especially the Moore era) but the Craig films have always been distinguished by a greater level of realism.

My heart will always belong to Roger Moore but when I show my kids their first Bond movie it will be Craig’s Casino Royale.

I think they will just bring in another actor and pretend like nothing has happened. They have already shown Bond before he was a "00" and his path to becoming a "00" (Craig's Casino Royale) so they won't do that again. It will just be "the further adventures of James Bond" and business as usual. Kind of like the typical end of a Bond film where he gets the girl, but she's nowhere to be seen in the next Bond film. They just move on without any explanations...

I find it hard to believe that Bond films will be made ad infinitum and I really don’t know what else there is for them to do.

As long as it is making money the franchise will continue. Film makers love sure bets and Bond is a sure bet (one of the few in the film world).

Yes, the villian was well played but I have trouble accepting that he was able to beat the entire Spectre organisation. We have been told time and time again how powerful Spectre is and how it has it's tenticles everywhere (even in M16) and yet this new upstart can swan in and wipe them out so easily.

Yes, I'd love to know how the baddie got hold of the DNA of everyone in Spectre as well as Madeleine and Mathilde.

I went to see it with my wife last night.

It was our first proper night out in a long time.

And yes it’s shocking. They’ve basically killed off the Fleming era with Blofeld, Felix and Bond all gone. I’m not sure what I think about that yet. But by heck it was a thrilling ride.

It had a lot more character depth than the average Bond and was a nod to OHMSS which for me is the most underrated Bond film.

Bonds have always been nonsense. If you don’t have the ability to suspend your sense of disbelief you’re watching the wrong film. ;-)

Anyway. As a single film It was Epic. It had everything you need from a Bond film with lots of nods to the Bond legacy.

It had Aston Martins with machine guns. Gadget watches. Kick arse Bond Girls. A house in Jamaica that looks a bit like the house Fleming wrote the novels in. Louis Armstrong. Baddies driving a Maserati. Funny one liners. Ridiculous “save the world” story with nanobots. And it had the Connery era evil villain’s lair complete with missile silos.

What’s not to love? (Rhetorical!!) It’s a proper Bond film.

And it’s the movies. They can do what they like with the next film. They can bring back Bond if they want. They can reboot again. They could set it back in the 60s when gadgets were cool and the cars were cooler. They can do whatever they can dream up.

It’s all make believe and totally nonsense. It always has been.

It was basically a love letter to Daniel Craig. I like that his films complete a 007 story arc from beginning to end.

I really enjoyed it. I hope you can enjoy it too. I certainly needed a good night out with the Mrs — And Bond delivered big time.

  • stop getting Bond wrong!” - Alan Partridge David Mitchell

he’s right though, the beauty of Bond is in enjoying the jeopardy, whilst knowing Bond will ultimately prevail

maybe it’s part of Blofeld’s Schwab’s “Great reset;)

  • Hmm, I left half way through. Glad to know I made the right decision.

"Nanobots?? You're a conspiracy nut!!! You watch too many movies"
    1 year later
"OMG Nanobots are here!!! We should inject everyone with them immediately!!!!"

    Why did you leave?
IMO you just missed half of a great film.

  • They could always do a Dallas.

I reckon it's all a dream and the next film starts with in the shower.

The action was great, the acting was great, everyone was super beautiful. But idk, could feel it sliding. When someone else had already replaced him as 007 because mi6 thought he was dead, my interest started fading. It's a favorite plot device in movies now. Kill off the hero.

  • We watched this afternoon. I enjoyed it. A good Bond movie. Still a bit in shock that he died.

The movie had one huge, fatal flaw: Bond does not die. EVER. That’s the whole point of the franchise. No matter how bad the odds are, you are reassured that bond will somehow figure out a way to outsmart the bad guys.
Not this time. Bond DID NOT outsmart the bad guys. He died, leaving his daughter fatherless.

Spoiler: I have it on good authority that it's a parallel universe thing a la Marvel and DC Comics. The next 007 will be played by a CGI Marty Feldman. (It was going to be Rowan Atkinson but they already kinda did that). Rumor has it that Chris and Liam Hemsworth are in competition for the role of the villain. Cloris Leachman was on tap for the main girl but sadly her death in January put the kibosh on that.

    Exactly!

Not a shower. Bond wakes up in the baddie's torture chamber. He blinks and shakes his head. He didn't die - it was an hallucination brought about by the truth drugs the baddies injected in to him. Time to kill the baddies, escape and get on with business as usual...girls, grog and guns.

Looking For Mr Bond, OO7 At The BBC:

  • Next film - James Bond turns up at MI6 (as a new actor), everyone says “but I thought you were dead?!”. James raises an eyebrow and says “didn’t you know, You Only Live Twice?” And carries on!

    Yes, they kill Bond.

Bond does what he normally does: orders a missile strike to blow up the baddie's secret base but he misjudges things and is unable to get off the island before the missiles rain down on him. Bye bye Bond.

Next scene is M's office where they are toasting the memory of James Bond.

Next scene is the mother and baby Bond in his Aston driving along the mountain road. She says to the kid "Darling, let me tell you a story about a man called Bond. James Bond."

    Roll credits.

And at the end of the credits they say "James Bond will return".

Sadly, they left out "from the dead"...

let me guess. either the kids name is “james” also, and the next movie is him avenging his fathers’ death. or the Mom does not know she is pregnant and she gives birth to a girl, and the girl goes on to be the first girl james bond( they have been hinting at for little while) either way i’m excited to get a new Bond. should be interesting.

The kid is already born and 5 years old. Her name is Mathilde.

The Mom has had the kid. She is 5 years old. A bit young to be "the next James Bond". Even if she was and adult, why would she be the next James Bond? The position of 007 is not hereditary. It is not passed down from parent to child.

ohhh that’s true that wouldn’t make sense then. so much for that theory😜 hoping the next Bond is
really good. feel like the last one was egh.. not as interesting as the Sean Connory
and Peirce Brosnan I grew up watching. in my humble opinion

  • They’ll just start the next movie with him waking up from a dream and bam, Bond is back!
