Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Download on the App Store

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

  • But what about Mozaic? You could even build a @Simon clone with Mozaic.

There are a couple of Mozaic specialists around I'm sure could do the build.

I may even learn how to use Mozaic just for that purpose.

I wonder how challenging that would be.

    Lololololololol......

I'd guess Drambo might not be immediately rewarding for individuals wanting an app which provides a predesigned song production method for quickly choosing from included preset sounds, then recording them into a sequencer to make music.

I'd say Drambo provides more of an avant garde approach for music creation by providing components for exploring sound creation, and then building songs out of the results.

For myself. Drambo is a portable sound design lab that allows me to think of sound design questions and ideas, then build experiments to test those questions and ideas, and learn from the results.

Ultimately, I think Drambo could be worthwhile app for anyone wanting to develop a better understanding of how to make specific types of sounds that they can then use in their own music. It's an app where one should expect having to learn the function of some of the basic modules for sound synthesis, and how to use them to build a basic synth.

The Drambo sequencer requires a little learning, but it's a pretty straight forward for looping types of song creation.

Once a user can build basic synths and create looping songs using those sounds. Then the frontier should be wide open for experimentation and making new types of sounds. The more one learns, the deeper one can delve into searching for cool sounds, and have moments where a sound built sheds light on how certain categories "known" synth sounds are to be made.

Because Drambo can be loaded as an AUv3 instrument in other hosts, Drambo can be used as just a sound source played by some other sequencer.

Standalone Drambo can load AUv3's too.

Probably better than the original...

    That’s called a p-lock.

I hear much more talk about than audible results from drambo tbf. Except for the octatrack one, that was cool but very involved with scripts and such

I've heard a couple of excellent Drambo tracks from @echoopera.

Edit: I should have read further down; he already posted one of them above me!

The problem with Drambo is it takes over your mind.

When there is a problem, any problem, your first thought is "Drambo can fix it!". You see it on this Forum all the time.

Someone on the Forum has a drum app that won't stay in sync - your response: "Drambo is the answer".

Someone has a headache and so you tell them "You need Drambo".

Your child cuts their finger - "Drambo can fit that".

I'm sick of hearing about Drambo.

Drambo, Drambo, Drambo. It's an evil drug masquerading as a universal cure.

Effects of Drambo on the typical modern family home. "We were ok with AUM and Gadget but then we downloaded Drambo and our iPad just exploded".

    That's part of my thoughts.
Besides that's, it's been a wonderful way of exploring and learning about synthesis in a very, very broad way. Module by module you basically learn how it's all, ALL, done. Starting with the most basic, an oscillator and an envelope and getting sound was like my first 'hello world'. Article after video has been expanding my brain. For me it is a great journey and I'm basically not using anything else anymore. While that is quite liberating in itself, I have to admit I'm in it just for the trip, I don't have to gain anything from it besides past time and joy.

  • Drambo is great for getting ideas down quickly. Here’s a little jam I had going tonight… I’ll spare you guys the Sax solo part!

  • Love using “G-mods” to modulate parameters in various AUv3 effects like SoundSAW for example.

Don't worry. Drambo can fix that relationship too. 😆

  • A solution could be, when someone asks ‘which app / how to do this and that’ we ignore the question or even better, we could say there is a way, but I’m not gonna tell... for the public good :)

Drambo will give if you put in time... there are gaps, so feel free to ignore it for now, but to me it looks like it will get there before others... it’s not for everyone, but everyone can find something useful in there... community work already offers many many solutions for everyone (new or lazy) and will only grow with time.

Haha, some already started to refer to the app as "D" to somewhat conceal the obvious 😄

  • My grandfather lived by the simple rule that every DIY task can be completed with just a hammer and enough nails. This sometimes resulted in spectacular workarounds and hilarious family stories, but as a matter of fact he always prevailed.

Some of the Drambo activists on this forum remind me of him. Yes, the solution may require patching in 27 modules (as opposed to the alternative which might be ticking a single box in the settings of another app), and at the end you may have to horizontal-scroll for 2.5 minutes, but "you can do it with Drambo".

While this is probably the main thing that keeps me from trying it I can totally imagine that it's my loss, and I have nothing but respect for you, Drambo people. 👊

There is minimise feature to make your rack to only display the stuff you want. So you don’t have to scroll.

There’s also foldable section module that allows you to errr fold sections ;).

The third thing is that you don’t have to build the same thing from scratch. You can save your rack and next time you need that sound you can recall it. In fact you don’t even need to build anything because patchstorage is filled with ready synths, drum machines and effects. All you need to do is to learn how to use the sequencer which isn’t different from any other non-modular offering on iOS.

The instrument below contains 17 modules. Once you’re done making it you don’t have to maximise it ever again.

If you don’t want to make it, just download it here

    https://patchstorage.com/hang-in-there/

This is no different from any other plug in you’d use in your Cubasis or Garage band. You save it in your rack or as an instrument preset and it will also be saved with your project.
If you choose to use Drambo only using downloaded patches you actually don’t need to learn any of the modular synthesis at all.

  • Drambophobes... we are coming for you all! It’s just a question of time... 😂
