Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

  • There's quite a number of great wavetable synths on iOS already!

Like Synthmaster One (only wavetables) or Synthmaster 2.99 (wavetables and five other synthesis), or, Nave (older, but, very very impressive and sound incredible just like the Synthmaster apps)…

Sure, that a lot of others wavetable synth on iPad/iPhone, but, this is the first That comes in mind for me…

Nave may be old but it’s still one of the best wavetable architectures on iOS, but Drambo with it’s wavetable IAP is so configurable; you can emulate the signal path of non modular wavetable kit with a little effort. I’ve created a mutant PPG clone in Drambo with an 8-bit signal path using the original PPG wavetables. It doesn’t sound identical to a PPG as it’s not a PPG but you can take the character of the original to new places.

Taking a differnt approach, Virsyn (now listed as Harry Goh on the appstore) has the AudioLayer sampler app, which can load EXS24 patches. With this you can load the superb Goldbaby labour of love dedication to the PPG - Bluewave. Which fortunately comes in EXS24 format amongst others. Go though all the sounds playlist on the Goldbaby site to get a fuller taste of the possibilities this soundpack provides.

  • The base sound is similar to Electribe Wave. All the wavetables in Electribe Wave (+ 2 IAPs) are included in the Modwave (page 6)
Obviously Modwave has a much deeper/layered structure.
