Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

  • Nice work! I voted #1. More my style. Both well produced tracks though.

    Thank you.
Both proudly produced with iOS apps only.

  • I voted for the 2nd one, but like them both. Great idea with the poll!

Nice work! Impressed that you did all that on your iPhone!

  • Amazing done on iPhone. I liked both tracks! But version 1 got my vote.

    Thank you.

The mastering chain for these two tracks:

    • 6144 (Low and High cuts)

    • Barkfilter (Modified Tripleband with all bands enabled and light threshold to taste)

    • Toneboosters EQ (mid/side dynamic EQ)

    • EQ3 (Air band at 40kHz)

    • MagicDeathEye (The original version, because my processor couldn’t handle the “Stereo” version with the rest of the chain)

    • ReelBus (Noise turned all the way down)

    • Barricade (“mix console” input modeler, light compression, “Beefy” limiter)

  • Impressive! Nice mix, clear, wide, and deep.
In Version 2, what is the mono bass and distortion?

That’s actually the same Retrobass (Groovebox) as in version 1.

Same loops, but processed through the following:

    • Toneboosters DualVCF (Random ramp filter)

    • Slow Machine (Chops the triplet bass loop)

    • ScatterBrain (randomly chops the bass loops into psychedelic shreds

(live switching between Slow Machine & ScatterBrain on each section)

    • ToneBridge (Octopuss > Rocketon Zombie > Taos .50 Cal > 4x12 Taos Rectifier with Wideload 421 mic on axis) (Input gain increasing from start to finish)

    • Bass Leveler (to keep consistent bass)

    • Toneboosters Compressor (Sidechain for ducking only the lower frequencies. Side chain trigger input from the lower frequencies of the drum bus)

  • Thank you for the info! It sounds wicked.
And all done on an iPhone 6S.

  • Some more info for anyone who is interested:

    Drums:

    • Pure Acid and all Ruismakers combined
    • Sequenced with Rozeta
    • All recorded in AUM except for one section where the loop was exported from Groovebox

    Synths:

    • Groovebox (exported loops)
    • Magellan 2 (Live audio recording in Multitrack DAW)

    Mixing, arranging & editing:

    • Multitrack DAW
    • In Version 1 at around 2:43, the slicing was done manually by cutting out pieces of the waveform on MTDAW’s timeline.

    Mastering:

    • AUM & friends
  • I think version 1.5 would be ideal. The overdriven lead line @2:30, for example, is much more powerful than the same point in v1. However, IMO, v2 loses out cause of too much overdrive throughout. Still I voted for v2, following the golf adage “never up, never in”.

    Even more remarkable is this...

    V.this...

Fucking amazing what half a century will do.

Good advice about the 1.5 between the 2 versions.
I liked the distortion so much and got so carried away that it became the main theme.

  • Here’s the magic scatterbrain preset “to shreds”
Works great with only one output as it is.

    Try it on drones etc.
Highly recommended before your favorite distortion.
    Have fun.

  • Personally, I like the second one a little better with the rougher textures, but ultimately, both are equally excellent. :)

  • Version 2 is more New Order, hence gets my vote. Nice one!
