Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

Swam Brass Pt 3 Walkthrough: Trombones (winners announced)

Swam Brass Pt 3 Walkthrough: Trombones (4 FREE copies of any Swam Brass app to give away)

This is the 3rd in a 3 part series on Swam Brass by Audio Modeling, focusing on the 5 physically modeled instruments contained in the Trombones bundle (note: these trombones are also available for purchase separately on iOS, but on desktop only as part of a bundle). I have 4 FREE copies of any Swam Brass iOS app to give away to people watching in the first 2 days of release of this video - details are in the pinned comment at the top of the Youtube comments section. In this video I compare the sounds of the various trombones, give an example of using them together in a rough sketch jammed composition, and look at the pros and cons of buying the Swam Brass on iOS vs on desktop.

The 5 Swam Brass trombones are: alto trombone, tenor trombone, tenor bass trombone, bass trombone, double bass trombone.

Please remember folks to help out the channel by not watching these behind an ad blocker, as I am sure you do not want to exploit your dear old Gavinski any more than YouTube is already exploiting him 😉. Thank you for your support.

  • Oh nice one man, I’ve been looking forward to the ‘bones

  • Great @Gavinski I will watch as soon as I get home from work. Thanks for all.

  • Yeah, posted this one a little bit early in the day for most people, enjoy at your leisure.

Thanks, going to watch this tonight. Here is a bad joke about trombones:

    How late is it?
-- Don't know let me check
Plays a very loud note on the trombone
Voice from outside Who the fuck is playing the trombone at 2AM?
    -- It's 2AM.

  • Lol

    I like this one:

What's the definition of a gentleman?
Somebody who knows how to play the trombone, but doesn't.

  • @Gavinski , nice video. Didn’t think I needed trombones but now I think I do.
    @FloRi89 , nice joke😀

  • Thanks, Gavin. You can rest your lips now.

@Gavinski been meaning to compliment you on the improved voiceover sound. I remember you were looking to improve it. Am I correct? There is static on the intro, tho... intentional?

  • 😂 😂 😂 That is intentional, and is the priciest distortion iOS money can buy (FabFilter Saturn) 😂😂😂

  • By the way, does anyone have any thoughts on how to set up ensembles using the individual Swam instruments in a way that would sound realistic. Obviously there are the phase offset settings in the apps themselves. I guess another thing is to use very small delay times applied to different instances. And just generally small tweaks to the sounds of the various instruments. What else? Has anyone been experimenting with this and found things that work well?

  • @Gavinski humanizing Mozaic scripts will help you. Might want to try “strumming” scripts too.

Delay + a Micropitch to tune it ever so slightly off. Reverb to move it around the “space”

  • Just wanted to say thanks again for all 3 of these videos. The demonstration songs were all great, and the comparisons were immensely helpful in helping me choose which instruments to buy. Thank you!! :)

Yes, was thinking about some of those swing / humanise Mozaic scripts, thnx

Yes, definitely reverb for that spacialisation, was just discussing this with @aleyas

Hadn't thought of micropitch, that's one of those eventide apps I got and have pretty much never used, nice one

Thanks Marmakin. I do hope the 3 of these videos will stand the test of time and be useful for many people from here on over the next few years. These are pricey apps, people need a thorough sampling to help them decide whether the differences are big enough to be worth it for them.

But reverb is just one of the half. Best ons of course to have a good spatialization software on top or included in the synth, where you simple said place the instruments in their positions and the software calculates the differences etc.
Simple panning does not work well and even stereo panning not really.
Binaural panning maybe but also not that great for me.
Not sure if iOS now offers something like that now. I use a spatialization software now in almost 99%, also if I just use synth sounds. Once you used it, there is no way back and it really gives a kind of a natural 3D sounds which is hard to fake otherwise just with reverb, delay. EQ. simple balance panning etc. since there is much more going on to achieve these things.
Hard to find (or impossible) to find good tools for this but since I use mainly just my iPhone for iOS maybe there is something better now for iPad, if not, someone should make it and not another VA synth :)

  • Maybe this? A useful app that I have not been using enough

This is the only thing available like this now. VirtualRoom was pulled from the App Store. Reached out to the dev about his plans for the future but haven’t heard back. Maybe someone with your clout could reach out? It was truly superior to Binaural Location to my ears.

Definitely, Mozaic script Ranbo goes on almost every track I make, if there’s midi that is... there’s also Apply swing, & Jac do ya Len , I think it’s called. There’s more then I can mention but a few more like, velocity randomizer, AU Hasard - for throwing in a few random notes, and Note Probability for filtering out a few notes, can be useful as well.

Thnx Chris, I think from those Apply Swing is the only one I have tried. I've still only scratched maybe 1 percent of Mozaic scripts lol.

I think if someone has pulled something they probably have their reasons for doing it, and I wouldn't imagine me or anyone else asking them to unpull it would have much effect 🤣

Yeah, I need to dive into the Mozaic scripts vault as well.

Yea no worries. Mozaic is essential in my midi workflow. No player hits a 100% of the notes, 100% of the time, at the same velocity, and is always on time, ya know, so just adding those little idiosyncrasies, drop a note here, miss the time by milliseconds there, randomized velocities, always makes it feel more alive to me. I usually keep the amount used to a minimum, but depends on what I’m doing.

  • The winners, randomly chosen, are:
    Michael o'reilly music
    USA reizen
    John Howard Nardine
    Acorn Sonata
    🎉🎉🎉🎉
    Big Congrats!
