$150 in 1980 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $473.15 in 2020. You had to keep that in mind. I just want to lower your pain! Cheers!

  • Sequential Prophet VS
    OG Korg MS-20
    E-MU EIII😢

But most of all everyone of the TR808, 909, SP1200, etc. I’ve had over the decades..... Only because I could make a small fortune selling them on Reverb now.

  • I had to sell all the keyboards because I no longer had room for them. But if I could have held onto one it would have been the Korg M1.. not for it's sounds, but for it's keybed. It was just so easy to play. I'd have kept it as a controller if I had had the room for it.

Though I am glad that I saved my 80's Boss guitar pedals. They were small and worthy of keeping. I wrapped each in paper and sealed them all in a small cardboard box. I have an OD-1 and a CS-2. I also kept a DD-2 delay.

  • Saxophone. Sold it for $20.
I did buy it super cheap though, and I was moving away so I had to choose between my guitar and the Saxophone.

  • I'm browsing the ads to find gems! I don't know how the QX3 worth, but I have a feeling that it's something that people will buy at a high price:

If I buy it I will try to make a video about it, just for the fun of it.

Thanks @Montreal_Music. You made me feel a little bit better.
But still regretting today I sold all that beautiful vintage gear.
I suppose you got your information from this site:
    https://www.in2013dollars.com/us/inflation/

So I updated my list to the values of late 80’s (1988 to by precise).

ARP Solina Stringensemble - sold for 435$ (updated 955$) - now approx. 1950$
    Korg MS-20 - sold for 430$ (updated 944$) - now approx. 1500$
    Korg VC-10 Vocoder - sold for 120$ (updated 263$) - now approx. 1500$
Roland System-100M 182 Sequencer (2 units) - traded in for Roland CSQ-100 - traded in for Roland MC-202
    Roland CR-78 CompuRhythm - sold for 150$ (updated 329$) - now approx. 3000$
    Roland TB-303 Bass Line - sold for 90$ (updated 197$) - now approx. 3000$

That eases the pain a bit. Except for the VC-10, CR-78 and the TB-303 of course.

My favorite drum machine is the Yamaha RX-5. Much of the reason is how much of the workflow was available while it was playing back. I’d imagine the QX3 would be similar. Once you get used to it and given the fact the functions are printed on the front panel you can get pretty quick with it! Keep us posted. 😎👍🏼

Same here re the M1. However listening back to some old tapes I got some pretty nasty stuff out of it too! 😎👍🏼

  • Nord Rack 2, Access Virus TI, Korg Electribe EMX-1, DSI Evolver... regreting all the time.

Somewhere along the line, though, I lost a Sovtek Big Muff: God, that thing sounded great. Every time I'm in my basement, I keep thinking I'll find the bag that has that and an old Countryman DI.

I have a mint Sovtek sitting in the box. I tried it for about 5 minutes and was so disappointed by how different it was from the original Big Muff that I put it back in the box and never touched it again. Maybe I should have given it a second chance? Maybe I should sell it. I wonder what they are worth these days..

I miss my 60s Rogers drum kit, my Wurly 140B, Rhodes Suitcase 73... a lot of classic gear. But my biggest regret was selling my 54 Strat in the late 70s for $275! But that is what they sold for at the time. Man that thing was like a dream. Paired with the vintage Fender amp w/ Master Vol mod, it would just feedback and sing with perfection like I have never experienced again. The finest guitar I have ever played.

  • A mint Korg Mono/Poly for £200. Not just because of its value now but because I didn’t even give it a chance. I had zero patience when I was younger so didn’t learn how to use it properly and the lack of midi meant it got sold.

Back in the day, the Sovtek Big Muff turned every guitarist into J Mascis. And they differed from one unit to the other. But you're in the East Village, aren't you? Did you know the guys at Mojo Guitar, on St. Marks? They were the Sovtek hookup for a long time....

  • I remember as a teenager in the late 80s/early 90s walking past a green Sovtek Big Muff in the window of a music shop next to my school.
It was priced at £25 and never sold in all the years I walked past it.

    But a ‘54 strat for $275??
I suppose back then no-one cared for the older stuff.

I recently bought a Yamaha KX61 for 20$. This is a really good keyboard for the price. It's a midi controller with a GOOD (to my taste) keybed and a complex ARP options (something like 365 arpeggios). It's made of plastic and feel a little bit cheap, the knobs don't work, but just for the keybed and the arp section, I like it.

A key is broken (the last C). I want to repair it but I cannot find what kind of key are in this keyboard. Some website states that it's the same keybed as the Yamaha DX7, but I have doubt.

I google a couple of things but found nothing. Anyone knows what keybed they use in the Yamaha KX61?

    Thanks.

I find it thoroughly entertaining that a couple of pieces of gear I bought back in the day for peanuts are now desirable and worth some $$$. I can't say I paid more than $75 for the Big Muff - bought it brand new from a Sam Ash. My old Boss OC-2 is a workhorse, and I've seen those sell for considerably more than the $80 or so I paid for it used.

I've always been the guy trying to get the most for his $$$, so I've never really owned any gear that was worth anything to anyone other than me (except maybe the Rhodes), so it's funny to me that I actually DO have a few "sought after" pieces now.

Re: the Sovtek Big Muff - I've got to agree with @ExAsperis99 that each unit is different. I've heard a fair amount of other units that don't quite sound like mine - that's not to say that I have the Golden Egg or anything, and maybe I've just become accustomed to it over all these years, but it just wins for me every time. I bought mine because Robert Sledge with Ben Folds Five had the world's best distorted bass tone and I NEEDED THAT TONE. I saw that he had one in an ad inside Bass Player Magazine and the rest is history.

  • This is a great thread.
Various pedals, effects and such including dbx over easy compressor/limiter. Nothing irreplaceable there.
My one true regret was selling my black GIbson RD Artist bass that I bought in Denver Colorado in like 1978.
    Practically gave it away too.
Still have the bass I replaced it with though.

  • Roland vsynth and roland vsynth xt

  • Everything. But if I have to pick one thing it would probably be a 106 I gave away like it was used shoes or something. 🤷‍♂️

  • Are used to live in a squat in London many years ago. One day when I came back to the it was all boarded up and a sticker from the council. My DX7, Roland SH 101 and split Hammond organ with separate Leslie gone. That was a sore one.

  • I’ve sold quite a few things over many years, those I miss the most are my first synth - a Roland SH5 - and my first polysynth - a Roland D10.

  • I sold my bass, amp, and distortion pedal when I moved in with my girlfriend last year because I didn’t think there would be room. There’s definitely room now and playing bass always helped me chill out when I’m getting overwhelmed which is happening a lot lately.

  • I had a 1962 Epiphone Casino that I adored that I pawned thinking that way I wouldn’t be selling it, but I didn’t get the dough to save it in time. Heartbreaker. There are tons of Pawn Shops here in Las Vegas and they’re all vultures, my mistake for messing around; if you really need the money just sell it and get as much as you can.

My Rickenbacker 4003 was another one I lost, and one that really gets me is this 20” K Zildjian Custom Dark Ride I had, best sounding ride cymbal I’ve ever heard in person (Think Joe Morello’s sound on Dave Brubeck’s “Take Five”)...

  • ARP Odyssey Mark 1, which I sold to a school music dept for £350 back in the early 90s. 😔

  • Off the top of my head:

    Roland TR-606, 505. and 707
    Roland Juno-106
    Oberheim DMX
    Oberheim Matrix 6
    Fender Rhodes 88-key

    Honorable mentions:
    Emu SP-1200 on loan
Ex-roomate's Fender Rhodes Piano Bass that he never used.
Roland SH-101 I saw at a yard sale once. I passed and had dreams about it for years.

  • i sold an ibanez 5 string and a hartke 4x10 bass cabinet for drugs and rent in 2001, regerts immediately

    Oberheim DMX

I got rid of my DMX and Prommer back in the 90s after hanging on to them for ages and finally deciding that I really don’t like them. Too rickety, like maintaining an 80s 8-bit home computer (which, most of it essentially was).
