Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Download on the App Store

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

It would be awesome if native instruments took the the iMaschine app and made it into a controller for maschine+.

Why would you want to do that out of curiosity? It would be better the other way around wouldn’t it?

Or,even just making Mk3/M+/Jam class complaint so we could use them to control BM3, NS2, Zenbeats, Gadget or Drambo. They are the perfect controllers. I think they know that...which is why they won’t do it.😩🤦🏽‍♂️

I really never understood why they won't just make the thing be all it can be and open it up. How is akai better at this? As you suggest, It's got to be on purpose.

Until then, we are happily being extorted Maschine users. Just can’t not have the sounds once you’ve experienced em. K13 is just downright unfair not to have.

I was really thinking they would create a fusion of some sort with iOS. Maybe iKomplete or iMaschine with auv3 or as an auv3/// but the Maschine + is an indicator that that dream has come and gone. They are all about their enclosed ecosystem (not a bad ecosystem to be stuck in at all) and expect you to be also.

I will say @echoopera help with Drambo, Module AU and new sounds have been a welcome distraction from my hardware troubles with M+. Reminded that iPad Pro really is in its own “standalone” lane while being an amazing compliment to the others. I just can’t wait until someone makes a controller for iPad with Maschine’s pads and enough knobs to control macros.

What Modules have you grabbed so far? Any must haves?

  • @WillieNegus said:
They did offer lite versions of many of their expansions available in iMaschine but they were only 16 bit I think. Great news is you can use a third party app to convert all of your Maschine expansions into kits for NS2/BM3 but you probably know that already. To get the good Komplete stuff you have to export from Kontakt which is teeeeeeedious but worth it on a project by project basis.

As far as gadget modules, @LinearLineman gave me a few recs but I ended up grabbing everything.lol. I like em all. Personal fav in Module are the choirs, mello and now Hybrid 2. That shit is piiiiiiffy 🔥. You already know them being so stingy on patches for it means a shiny new iap sooner than later.lol. If they all launch at 3.99 Korg will continue to crush it.

I think I'm on my way to follow that train. Im shocked at what I'm hearing in terms of quality from this stuff. Sounds like I got a new DAC or something.

Wait, other than the first couple IAP's being $3.99, I'm getting my head busted for $9.99's and $19.99's over here...Am I missing out on a sale or something?

Reorganized my setup to connect one audio interface to another, so I could use Maschine (MK2) to sequence hardware and iPad apps, as well as audio from Maschine/PC. AUM is used mix from all audio and for FX. Should have done this sooner, digging this setup.

  • edited October 2020

@WillieNegus Yup! AUM is the best mixer ever designed. 😄 Basically using PC/Maschine as external/standalone audio source, with Maschine standalone mode not as VST. This was my mistake for years because of trying incorporate Ableton into mix. Will figure out that later, heh.

Ableton Link syncs the clock between Maschine and AUM. Audio is routed from Maschine/PC as tracks into AUM, where I add AU FX, etc.

iPad is midi router. It comes in from PC/Maschine and gets distributed to AU/hardware.

  • LOLOL, yup! Routing is fun.

  • @WillieNegus AB3 should be able to this, but I find AUM easier. It requires two audio interfaces too, one for iPad and one for PC/Maschine.

Did you do this via setting up an aggregate device on the PC to host the 2 audio interfaces?

Yes but also what I meant was as a controller and a I apologize is like a third screen where you come control your iOS apps like an instrument kind of like the logic remote

  • edited October 2020

So yeah. This is working out really well with the M+ as the hub and all audio coming into it via the Scarlett.

@echoopera One interface is connected to iPad and the second one to the PC, since neither can do aggregate devices. Then, I'm just the connecting two interfaces with each other: midi and audio with cables.

    Some really good news.

Just did a longer test. I have my FocusRite Scarlett18i8 gen 2 plugged in to the USB port of the M+ and all the I/O shows up. What’s great about this is that i have instant access to the following gear hooked up to the Scarlett:
    Microfreak
    Minilogue
    AS-1
    DigiTone
    OctaTrack
What’s great about this is that all audio is routed thru the Scarlett to the M+ so it’s easy to sample all of my gear and since it’s all connected via an Anker USB Hub i can midi sequence everything.

Super cool to have it all accessible in the Maschine+

Will run more tests today during a jam session. 😬

same here and it's great! i use the es-9 from expert sleepers, which gives me 16ins and 16outs. but i have a small problem - i try to explain it: i want to trigger my drummachine roland tr-8s with the M+ pads and sequence it with the M+.
    midi: over usb working great
audio: tr8s stereo out --> audio interface audio in "1+2" stereo
tr8 individual kick out --> audio interface in "3" mono

now i want to create a drumkit in a group:

    • pad nr.1 triggers the bassdrum note which audio is coming into audio in nr3: WORKS
    • pad nr.2 triggers the snaredrum note which audio is coming into audio in nr1+2: WORKS
      BUT:

    • the remaining pads 3-11 should behave like pad nr.2 with the only differene that they should trigger the remaing 9 notes/sounds of the tr-8s. But as soon i duplicate the pad nr.2 onto pads 3-11, it's like the M+ duplicates/doubles/triples/quadruples also the audio input, even if it's always just the same audio input... result: with each pad added< a lot of noise is building up. Why is that ? any idea ? thanks

    @WillieNegus thanks.
Unfortunately the iPad can only work over USB in Host mode. So the HUB will need to be connected to the iPad and then the M+ will be connected to that HUB via its USB cord. The M+ will then be available as a Midi Sender on the iPad and will be seen in AB3 or AUM or whatever DAW you’re running. So it will just be another controller in the iPad workflow.

The iPad is just another computer/host in this sort of setup.

Hrmm. I will have to check this on the Scarlett. I wonder if the M+ is only able to produce Stereo outs regardless of the number of audio ins/outs it can see.

I’ll try and test tomorrow to see what happens on the Scarlett.

thnx, i don’t think so. maybe i explained it wrong with my crappy english ;)
i am able to address different inputs - even for each sound/pad inside of a group. i then could even route every sound that comes in from an external synth, to a different output of my interface. that is all working great.

the problem is, that the noise is summing up, because it’s like the M+ “opens” the same stereo input 10 times / or listens to it 10 times: one time for each midi-note i setup, to trigger the 10 sounds of the tr-8s.
I can literally hear how the noise is doubling up with every pad i add

i just want to understand, but it’s not that important- i could also use the sequencer of the tr-8s :)
but it would be nice sequencing only the sounds of the tr8, so the 2 machines cannot go out of
    midi sync

never mind i solved it! my error was to setup the stereo input on EVERY sound. i just had to do it once for the whole kit and once for the kick which uses an individual input .

  • this is my small living room setup. Argon8, System-1m, DFAM, TR-8s and iPad (with it’s own small usb audio interface hidden in the case) are connected to the expert sleepers es-9
audio interface, which is connected to the maschine+ to ecpand it‘s outputs and inputs. M+ sequences everything.

I did all the USB cabling with 2
hidden hubs, in a way that allows me to switch easily the es-9 from the M+ to the iPad. In that case the iPad is the main Sequencer/hub/“daw” and the M+ is just a Synth.

At the moment i prefer the configuration with the M+ as “brain”

  • Wow...beautiful setup. Thanks for sharing the configuration.

  • @AlaErt Maschine as Brains, and iPad as Heart for me, the rest as body.

Finally had a night to become 1 with the Maschine+ this evening.

A little bit of a “let’s get really lost before we find ourselves...” 1 take sonic exploration.

Running 3 instances of Monark and 2 of Massive thru my 12MTK and that is being fed into AUM with Velvet Machine doing its lush goodness. I also had a few M+ filters on the synths and on the 12MTK to dirty things up a bit in real time knob twiddling fashion 😬

At one point my son came in and started playing some Chords of Korg Module Pro on the iPad. He asked me if i could record it and well here’s a little Dad and Son jam for your ears tonight. At one point he sort of dozed off on the keys before mom came in and escorted him to bed.

As always, thanks for listening. Peace and blessings to you all 🙏🏼💕

I’ll see what i can do. I want to post some vids of these sessions for sure.
