Audiobus: Use your music apps together.
What is Audiobus? — Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Logic pro X - macbook air
I’d REALLY like to get it installed on the Air. I’m willing to live with some performance degradation, but I understand it may require putting the sample files on an external (preferably SSD) drive.
What’s the current wisdom? I’d welcome advice from someone who’s using it in a similar environment.
Thx!

What you could do is to install the 'base' Logic Pro X (~2,5GB or so) then in the settings relocate the audio-library to the external drive before downloading all the additional files (It's roughly ~80GB fully loaded).
I used to keep the audio libraries on an external SSD (Samsung T5) but since the internal drive in the Mini is >3 times faster I relocated the files back to the internal drive to avoid 'delays'(we're talking <0.1s to >5seconds) when loading the bigger patches.
Depending in the drive and size it doesn't hurt to try...
Depends on the type of external flash drive. A T5 is indeed slower compared to the internal flash drive but if your mac has TB3 then this will be just as fast as your internal flash. https://eshop.macsales.com/shop/owc-envoy-pro-ex-thunderbolt-3
I don't have any Thunderbolt drives yet, just using the USB3.1 version which gives me around 500MB/s Read & Write.
The internal drive reads closer to 3GB/s(2,8GB/s with BlackMagic Bench app) and it's definitely something that can be 'felt' in everyday use. I'm on the 2018 MacMini 3.0Gz 6-Core i5, 256GB SSD and 8GB Ram.
