Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

A few notes in Cykle, OPL, Waverley, and a fistful of MIDI autogeneration...

‘More Are Coming’ is a little bit I did to try out Waverley and some of the other MoodUnits https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/moodunits/id1521447619 with OPL https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/opl-auv3-fm-synth/id1516617949 , another mega cpu friendly device, which I just picked up on sale, paired with another low impact effect, the lovely DL01 delay https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/dl01-simple-delay/id1522194793.

This is a raw video grab from the AUM session, no editing or mixing.

The very great (and free!) Filterstep https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/filterstep/id1500042551 is in there to generate a bit of movement, (Mastering is for wimps ;) ), and the equally great auto level minder Maze Rider https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/maze-rider-auto-leveling/id1521409352 keeps me, or at least my levels, mostly the right side of too hot.

The whole mix took 16% CPU, and about as long to write as it does to watch. Also: I am constantly impressed by how far a few notes chucked into Cykle https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/cykle/id1187680637 can get you when routed through a few MIDI manipulators, like Ioniarics https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/ioniarics/id1473268015, Aphelian https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/aphelian/id1435855056 and midiGates https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/midigates-midi-probability/id1226296557. I didn’t even need my reliable standby midiLFOs this time...

As ever, no keyboards were harmed in the making of this piece :)

  • @Groby : hey, thanks for the listen! Very high praise, those are both great heroes of mine, but I think I’m prepared to concede that they probably know a little bit more about music than I do :) Which is...er... nothing at all! Obviously, though I do like hanging around with musicians. Did I mention I was a drummer? :)

  • @Groby : I’ll check that track out. Thanks for the heads up (luckily, I’m not worth suing if this turns out to sound too much like their thing ;) )
