Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

  • Here are two versions of the same song. I performed the first layer (bass/piano/pad) live and sent it to @Gravitas He added his additional layers. I then replayed my version live but with an added lead and other various parts.
The original layer was played with one finger on one pad (Handsonic) using three layered Mozaic hypno sequence scripts (built by @wim ) playing three instances of Continua. Left hand is then playing lead (Drambo)/ Kronecker / etc and also changing presets in Mozaic via Quneo. A video version will come out soon.
    Thanks Gravitas!

    When I received Hypnopad's
gift of his track to collaborate with.
I downloaded it and listened to it.
'How was I going to approach this?'
    I asked myself.

As I'd been in dRambo concocting ,'globule',
    a sequenced pitchshifting delay thing,
it was good to hear something else.

So I loaded it up into BM3 first and hit play.
I noticed that there was drift at the given tempo
so my next step was to find the closest tempo for my
understanding and then to time stretch it in Auria Pro.

I then took that file and loaded it back into BM3.

I went through a selection of sounds before
I decided which ones I needed to use.

    I sequenced African, Asian
percussive sounds and a western ,'thunk', kit
from my custom banks in BM3.

The piano sound is the iGrandPiano.

The upright bass is BM3's own upright
which needed a little correction for pitch.
A couple of the notes were too sharp so I'm going to
go through each sample to check for correct pitch as
this was the first time I've used it for a piece.
The upright bass is well recorded so it is worth
going through and correcting the pitch.

I also loaded up the entire track that I had time stretched
and added markers at every bar so that I could play
    it as an instrument.

I've used some custom effects including ,'Globule', that I've been
designing in dRambo, alongside dRambo's new plate reverb,
Eventides Rotary and KoalaFX for the reverse effect.

I thought about the piano for a couple of days
then decided to improvise each section.

Though I've used BM3 extensively, this was
the first piece that I used it's automation for.

When I'd reached a point that I thought,
'this was okay, I can listen to what I've done', was when
I made the decision to export it into AudioMaster.

    I used a touch of it's 3+5+7 harmonic saturator,
the imaging, multiband compression and it's maximiser.

    That's it.

It was a really nice journey.

    Thank you Hypnopad.

  • I’ve listened to everything so far and this is just awesome! Great work, mofos!

You guys always deliver great tracks. It's good to see you bouncing ideas back and forth.

  • good track, but turn the tap delay down on masterbus

  • @noob Haha. I know I tend to go a bit overboard on delay in my tunes but there are some reasons for this apparent excess. I play everything live and don’t follow a drum track so delays are the one thing I have to keep me in time and make the the track as rhythmic as I want it to be. I also am trying to fill out the spaces with the delays as well as reverb since it might seem too sparse with out it. And I guess the last reason is it’s appropriate for the trippy genre/vibe I’m going for (think dub delay in reggae). I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. I guess musicians tend to gravitate towards certain effects - some to delay, some to reverb and some to distortion.😉
After another listen I probably would put more verb and less delay on one of the lead sounds. Thanks for listening.

@hypnopad Dude i love that delay on the synth s its great but just saying that let that thing be a bit more ..hmm..variated in VOLUME, like have someone juggling the faders , ah do t mind me, im just exited because i liked the track and wanted to fiddle with it haha

I’m definitely a fan of dynamics too. I totally get what you’re saying. This could benefit from lighter playing in some parts.Did a tune recently where I did build ups and then brought it down - worked out really well.
Oh and just to let you know, I didn’t have any delay on the master track but I had it on several tracks high enough where it sounded like I did.🙂 If I were to do it over again I would vary the delay times in each track also.

  • The next fragment from @noob and myself. His mix is coming soon!

    Play it loud

Definitely evolving @noob. Needs a cello part and some vibraphone.😉

  • more vibraphone!

  • @iOSTRAKON cmon we need more cowbell in this thread. post some challenges

  • This is kind of like putting car keys in a bowl at a party in the 70’s.😉

  • Sounds fun @noob ?

  • @LinearLineman What say you piano man?

  • I’m ok with this if @hypnopad is. I don’t like the “vs” stuff, tho. In fact, that may be keeping some folks away. Anyway, how about @RichardYot and @Slava?

It’s hard to encourage folks to post their efforts. Fear of criticism on one side and ego on the other.
We are frail creatures. I wish the reticent would see it is a contribution and not as a judging.

    @McD vs @Gravitas

@McD Well, it seems it's us this time round. 😉

yeeeess lets go @Krupa . you first i follow

  • @LinearLineman I think of this as more of a collaborative thread than a competitive one. The vs can be misleading. I suggest we message each other for further discussion.

Cool, I’ll dig in my folders later, see what might be worth sending over - just finishing some actual honest real paid work...

I can't partake, my hands are already full with the Song Of The Month Club, sorry.

Maybe change the title of the thread? as I also agree that
it's more of a collaborative thread than a competitive one.

I can try to take part if there are those willing to cooperate. One caveat, lately I have been using only Korg Gadget from iOS.

  • Thread title is fixed. I apologize, didn’t want to add any negativity to this. Only inspiration and creativity.

The whole vs concept comes from the industrial scene where bands would remix each other tracks and release it.

Can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with!
