Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

No Output Sound on audiobus

edited March 2014 in General App Discussion

Hey Guys

I bought audiobus. I add an input app like sunrizer or alchemy on the input, nothing in the effects and on the output garageband. I wake up all the apps by tapping on them. On the output app (garageband) I setup a project and use the mic recorder so I can record the output from my synth app.

Now from alchemy or sunrizer I get the small toggle screen on the right side. When I hit the play button or record button on garageband nothing happens. I dont hear any sound when I click the play button.

Anyone experience this issue?

Ps
I updated audiobus, garageband, alchemy and sunrizer to the latest versions on my iPad, just in case it was a bug in one of the apps.

  • Sometimes if you put an app into the Audiobus FX slot (don't even have to load the app) - it will fix the audio output issue. This happens to me on occasion with a few apps.

Also, turn on "monitoring" in GarageBand.

tap new instrument, select audio recording (the microphone), then tap on the 1/4" cable icon to set input settings. Turn "monitor" on to hear your Audiobus inputs.

    Cheers, hope it works.

  • You do have recorded data in Garageband when you hit play button, don't you?

  • I toyed with it quite a bit. I did turn on monitoring yesterday when I was trying to get it to work.

@mgmg yes I have an entire project recorded. I just wanted to add some Synth from alchemy or Sunriver.

  • I've I'll try your suggestion @hmtx

  • Still no sound output in audio bus guys. Any more suggestions?

  • Try starting with fresh project.

  • Did that.

  • I have no idea. watch these videos and see if they give you any tips. I can say for sure that your scenario works for many people, so it is just a matter of getting your settings sorted out.

Have you tried pressing a few keys in sunrizer or alchemy while GarageBand is recording?

  • Davemagoo - yes, I surely did.

Hmtx - I will watch those videos today.

From the videos I seen on YouTube, this should be a simple 1: add input app, b: add output app and record thing.

Anyone think this could be an ios problem??

    Which iPad, which iOS?

For clarity, is it the previously recorded tracks in Garageband that you can't hear?
Can you hear Sunrizer or Alchemy when you play them?
Can you hear the Garageband tracks if you switch back to Garageband and hit play there?

  • ipad 3 firmware 7.0.2(11A501)

  • Sorry, edited my post with more questions

  • All I can say at the moment is that it works with iPad 2, iOS 7.1, but the "Optimising Performance" process that kicks in straight afterwards is intolerable. :P

  • @paulB answers to your questions:
    -iPad3
    -iOs version - 7.0.2
-I can't hear the previously recorded tracks in Garageband nor can I record to a new track using the microphone in garageband. Yes, I switched on 'monitoring'.
-Sometimes I manage to hear output from alchemy/sunrizer, from within alchemy/sunrizer, other times I can't hear it.
-If I switch to Garageband and click the play button from within garageband I hear all my tracks playing. If I hit record from within garageband I can record using the microphone.

Also, I should add that the iPad gets really glitchy and starts lagging once I have audiobus and alchemy (or sunrizer) and garageband loaded up.

I tried bringing down the frames setting in audiobus, that didn't help.

  • Have you hard reset your ipad by pressing the home and power buttons simultaneously until you see the Apple logo?

  • edited March 2014

I didn't have to change any settings at all to get this to work first time. I rarely use Garageband, so I think it's set to the default settings. The iPad 3 has documented problems with glitching, etc, but the only thing that is in your power to change easily is the iOS version. I would suggest upgrading to iOS 7.1. It seems to be quite an improvement over the other v7 variants and it may sort out the problems you're having.

  • mgmg4871 - yes, I did hard reset last night.

PaulB - I plan to upgrade the iOS to the latest version if all else fails.

  • Fair enough.

  • Keep you guys posted.

  • Update: Problem solved!

I installed the latest iOS (7.1) and all's well now. Apparently 7.0.2 was very glitchy and buggy.

Hope this thread helps anyone out there with a similar problem.

Thanks to everyone who pitched in... means alot.

@PaulB - awesome sunrizer patches bro. Thanks!
