Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Download on the App Store

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

I’m so into these, I was lobbying @giku_beepstreet to fix import/export for years. Guess he was busy with something else.

  • We talk earlier about OvalSynth. When I record with the tape recorder of Oval, it create a .aac file. When I export the file in Audioshare, the file is not working. Audioshare is supposed to read aac file. I am the only one with this problem?

  • GliderVerb is very good. A kind of sampler/reverb/granular synth. I think its free to try.

Was bored so I made this for you.

Because that .aac can't be played by Audioshare. It needs to be converted. The shortcut I made allows you to

    1. Tap share in Oval Synth
    2. Scroll down until you find the shortcut
    3. Tap on the shortcut

It'll automatically convert the audio, import the audio to Audioshare, and you can play it directly in Audioshare.

  • Nanoloop
    yellofier
    Rrarrow
    6X806
    EsotericSynth
    Rotor
    Monovista
    K-Machine

All worth a look, though rotor only works for me on iOS 12 and earlier..instant crash on iPadOS

Beatonal: the “Figure Pro” that time forgot

I definitely like Beatonal more than figure and still use it semi-regularly. More twiddly bits under the hood to keep me experimenting., Though figure sounds a little better imo.

Whoa, concentric looks really cool. And I can use it in split view. Nice.

Poly2 replaced and far exceeds Comcentric for me...

Yamaha AN2015 gets some use here still. Wish they would add some more connectivity, would be happy to pay for an Audiobus compatible version.

It’s hidden in a free app called Synth Book if anyone is curious.

I love that trackball mod control scheme! Another cool mod control is Novation abandoned LaunchKey app... Great mod control.

Another option: AudioStretch https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/audiostretch/id571863178 can open the .aac file, and let you upload it back out to AudioShare as a wav. It also allows real time audio scrubbing, and super slow pitch and time shifting. And the Lite version, which will do the .aac conversion if that’s all you want, is free.

What the heck is the full name of the one in the middle? Trying to find it on the App Store .

Yes, ilep is a good one. Cs spectral looks amazing, don't think I would spend 20 bucks on something that isn't AU, but seems tailor made for experimental / ambient stuff. Very nice.

Synergy Studio, by 4Pockets, (all those fx apps, most recently Evolver) it just disappeared from the AppStore. I’m a big fan, wrote the developer, but have not heard back. Just IM’d him too.

Surely Shirley this means it is in the back room being polished again for another twirl around the dance floor?

  • @Montreal_Music quick thank you for starting this thread! My wallet doesn’t love you for it but my ears do, have picked up a few great apps that I might never have discovered otherwise. Cs spectral, cs grains, moonshine AU ftw!

Surely Shirley, given that my cringy/gushy 5 star review of Synergy is still posted on the (deprecated) 4Pockets website, my appeals to the dev should carry sufficient weight to get that polish done and twirl underway

  • Grain Science, anyone?

I liked that. The patch names too.

  • I’ve always liked some of the Aleksander Mlazev ‘stompoxes’, but my hands down favorites are Alien Box (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/alien-box/id1235647874) which is a weird, rich variable vibrato with resonator thing, and Remake (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/remake-multiband-effect/id1292228070) which is like a multi-band filter that seems like it subtracts frequencies to bring out the best parts of a sound.
