Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Quitting ejected apps

I have noticed an issue, wanted to see if anyone has a workaround. I tend to use Audiobus in a live situation, often ejecting inputs and effects in the same song. When ejecting effects I have noticed they tend to stay live in the background processing audio still, on occasion starting a feedback loop. This forces me to immediately kill the app after ejecting. Kind of a pain. Is there a setting I am missing or any suggestions to help remedy this.

  • No, there is no setting to miss. We've discussed having a mechanism in the AB SDK to give the capability, but I think they decided to make it a matter of convention that apps need to take it upon themselves to stop doing background processing when they detect disconnection from AB. It is complicated by the fact that for some apps, you might still want them doing their thing (midi controlled synths, etc) in the background, even when ejected from AB. It's going to need to be user-driven, ultimately.

  • It's one of those things that always bothered me too. I understand the reason for not to do so. It would be cool as an option though.

  • Makes sense, Thanks for the info.
