Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

  • My guess is that the “surprise” mentioned us that they will be integrated into GeoShred rather than being completely standalone, but we won’t have long to wait to find out.

Video just released Gerald Peters playing GeoShred + Audio Modeling SWAM saxophone on his iPhone 8+.

To be able to play something that sounds pretty much like a sax, without actually having to play a sax? On a cell phone? For a few bucks?

Sign me up. Yes, I’m old, but do people today really take this for granted? :)

for me, this is only relevant with external MIDI input (breath control, wind controller). But it looks like it is getting there. As Geoshred IAP or as own app, or both, we'll see.

  • Why does everything made with geoshred sound like alien porn music...

February 26th, 2020: release of SWAM Solo Brass for Desktop and iOS

yeah, for real. it's a really specific, mid 90's sexy alien vibe. with virtuosic shredding. I really like geoshred and swam instruments but I have to wonder who they're targeting with these videos.

Jordan Rudess is my guess. I love geoshred and swam is incredible but I spend the first part of my time time with the former trying to find and undo all the taste-void parameters in the presets and get something that doesn’t sound like it’s been designed by someone walking around fake Roman colonnades of their mansion in velvet underpants and a leopard skin vr helmet.

It’s like hiring frank Zappa to produce child safety videos.

Sounds like Eddie Jobson’s electric violin at the end!

  • Sounds good, beside the cello in the video sound more like a broken cello :)
I often find in all those videos the vibrato all over the top and a bit unnatural. Maybe it is just me but i like to use it more like a spice here and there.
Having these SWAM for iOS is a great thing i also waiting for. I wonder if they are like a player inside Geoshred (so like in the Roli app) or will we get the full editing options like the on the desktop. That would be super.

Thank you for the info. So it seems the full apps coming with all the bells and whistles. That are fantastic news. Another nail in the coffin for my mac.

  • Curious way of launching a new product ... few parameters, don't ask fer discounts or updates, no bells and whistles ... guess you don't need too many selling points when you have sounds like SWAM. But this rather disparaging announcement is in stark contrast to every app I've seen.

It boils down to separate offerings. One is a partnership, released and supported by that partner, the other is a first party release with full features and support.

But i (as customer) am now quite undecided if i should buy the GeoShreds IAPs when then are published or if i keep waiting for the AudioModeling SWAM AUs .

    I just re-checked:

    • GeoShred 5.0 with the SWAP IAPs is slated to be launched Q2 2020
    • AudioModeling SWAM Solo Brass march 2020
    • AudioModeling SWAM v3 spring 2020

So it‘s not even sure that GeoShred will release before the AM SWAM v3 app.

That is a point indeed. I will wait for the full blown apps for sure. I think if the IAP inside Geoshred already cost $15 the full apps should be 2-3 x the price which is totally fine for me but i would not want to pay again for the same content on the same platform.

  • Ditto - i don‘t mind paying more for the full versions, i hope i can free up enough space for the samples :)

I have been waiting for these since the release of the ROLI app, where i would have bought all SWAM IAPs if they would have worked in the AUv3.

  • So the solo brass SWAM is $600 (preorder $480). Uh, hefty price. So i anyway could just afford the iOS version which might be maybe as usual 1/10. But you never know.
Also maybe these making even more sense on a multi-touch device (if you not use a hardware MPE controller).
I´m already dreaming about Drambo sequencing a SWAM orchestra, lol.

I appreciate their honesty. They sell a professional product, and they’re open about the fact that, if we want that full product, the GS packs are not it. Their desktop products are a bit pricey for my needs now, but I’m happy to see whatever’s being offered for GeoShred, an app I love. I don’t need any sugar-coated marketing. Tell me what’s what, and if it’s worth the cost to me, I’m all in.

  • @lovadamusic ... oh no don't get me wrong - I said curious - not evil.

But I suspect you can only get away such such honest marketing when you have a sound that already has folks drooling for it... at the mere mention of it. I was most peeved when I found SWAM wouldn't work in the Noise AUV3 ... all I wanted really.

I use SWAM kit on the Mac with a Rise 25 - just superb - incomparable - sound and the modelling gives amazing control over the articulation of instruments - strings in particular ... almost up with Trillian for double bass. Most of the time added effects just get in the way.

    Just nothing like 'em. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=70&v=SEAaqCdJ3Qo&feature=emb_logo

But I don't really want to be using Geoshred as a rather limited interface. So I too will wait for the proper Audio modelling app. Worth serious money provided it's not an accursed subscription.

  • Oh my god. Feb 26th release was the only thing I've been living for. Are you telling me I got to wait another month before I can kill myself?? Fuck!

I wouldn’t count too hard on March release of solo brass for iOS. They are a small company, and have been behind schedule on all iOS stuff so far. As far as I know iOS beta testing hasn’t even started yet, and they are perfectionists (in a good way), so they won’t rush A product to meet an announced release.

The biggest consideration between the two should be what controller you are using to play the instrument. If you aren’t planning on using geoshred touch surface as your primary SWAM controller, it’s probably best to wait. The 4 parameters will be tailored to fit the GeoShred interface and will probably work great.

If you are going to use a midi keyboard as your controller, you are going to want the customization of the full product from Audio Modeling, otherwise you won’t be able to get enough realism out of the instruments.

  • I personally hate lock in so I’d want the standalone version. Might have to finally splurge for a breath controller...

    That does sound impressive, thanks.

The GeoShred thing is a different product, and should be evaluated for what it does for GS users. I think it makes sense that Audio Modeling wants to be perfectly clear that “the models that will be included in GeoShred are not a replacement of our native iOS Apps/plugins”. It eliminates confusion and possible controversy about their products they don’t want to be saddled with, and states the fact that the GeoShred packs are essentially a moForte product. Seems to me like a sound business decision on their part.

  • It seems the iOS get not all bells and whistles, but almost at least. When someone asked for it in another forum the answer was:

"As for iOS version, they will come in a few weeks. They will be (almost) complete as the Desktop version. We will remove just super-advanced options, and add a proper control surface to be used effectively with the iPad."

Not sure what but i often miss exact these "super advanced" options in the iOS versions like with some other ports.
    We will see.

  • I think geoshred doesn't have velocity on iPad, no? This is exactly why the sax demo is on an iPhone. So the only real option for this is to use blue mangoo's 'velocity keyboard' (great app BTW) or an actual mpe midi controller like the seaboard. Really looking forward to this release, hope it isn't too pricey, though I'm sure it'll be well worth whatever they end up charging. To have these kind of sounds in auv3 is really a dream come true.

You could buy a decent trumpet for that price.
