Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

Ohhhh shit I’ve been waiting for this for a long time!!!!!!

  • Blimey, it's a bit expensive, isn't it? £30 a month, or thereabouts? :#

  • Pretty sure if we wait just a little longer things might change. Same thing happened to splice, now they're giving free for a few months with some hardware. Serato Studio now allows you to buy the app outright if you don't want to subscribe.

They do keys now as well.

Interesting - I'll take a look. I've been learning the piano for about two years, but it's pretty slow going...

And actual electronic drums! They are or were partnered with Roland even.

The iPad version works a lot better for me than the Mac version ever did. It really benefits from the higher screen refresh rate on the Pros, too.

  • The problem with Melodies is their pad layout. It’s first-gen, where the fingers map to traditional arm movements, and you play the pads squared off.

Mad Zach’s norm-shattering layout is more ergonomic, allowing for easier and more creative rhythms.

  • I haven't used it but Melodics allows you to customize the layout. I think it's per lesson and that it's been requested to add support for setting a personal global layout.

  • Wow, great news, I didn’t know that.

But, it’s not just layout, but also the technique… the things made possible by the different layout.

Register for a free account. They’ll send you deals on a semi-regularly basis. I’ve never paid full price.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the heads-up, I'll do exactly this.
