Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Download on the App Store

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

    Quick update.

In regards to BM3 and Ableton sync.
I have managed to get a Quantiloop, BM3 and Patterning
running at the same time with AUM as the host.

Quantiloop and BM3 are synced using Ableton with start/stop enabled
Patterning is IAA sync from host as it accepts start/stop

BM3 can lose sync when switching between apps
and takes a couple of tries before it syncs up properly
using the transport from both Quantiloop and AUM.

Have you found any solutions to syncing BM3 using Ableton
or is it simply a matter of live with it until another update?

Hey man, the issue with BM3 syncing with Ableton live using Ableton link is still an issue.
Soon as you change tempo on Ableton live BM3 loses sync. Its logged with the developer.
As you know using AUM is a workaround.

    Okay good to know.
Even when using AUM it loses sync.
I'm thinking to get another iPad so that I can leave BM3 on
there and have the other apps running on my current iPad.
That way if BM3 loses sync live then I can easily
pull it out of the mix whilst keeping everything else going,

    Thanks for replying.

Does it have the same problem with Midi clock?

  • @espiegel123

    I'm trying midi clock now.

It starts and stops using the AUM transport.
Much more stable than using Ableton @rs2000 was absolutely right.

I'm going to try keeping AUM sending both Ableton and midi clock
and see how stable it is over the coming week.

Last night whilst recording my most recent video
I was getting clicks when app switching.
Now? not at all using midi clock.

We’re you recording the video via screen capture? If so, I find that it sometimes adds just enough processing load that I sometimes (and sometimes don’t) get crackles with setups that are usually artifact free.

    @espiegel123

No, I didn't record it using screen capture.
I filmed it using my SE.
The crackles were happening because my iPad doesn't
have a fast enough graphics card I do believe.
I used to experience the same thing on PC's with integrated graphics chips.
The cpu has to do double the processing to keep
everything going and switch between apps.
Quite often that can be heard as a crackle or glitch in the audio.
Graphics take up much more bandwidth than audio
though I know you already know this so merely stating the obvious.

Ableton Link may well be using a tad more processing than midi???

BM3 isn't syncing using midi sync whilst I'm
listening on Bluetooth headphones by the way.
Something that has happened before so simply a heads up there.

Granted I am doing this on an iPad Pro 9.7" 1st gen
so the iPad has an inherent speed itself.

    I'm learning it's limits.

My current listening mixing environment is

    AUM as host

BM3 set to Ableton (I': setting this to midi as it syncs correctly at the moment)

Patterning set to IAA host for tempo sync (works much, much better
than Ableton as it doesn't have Ableton start or stop)

Quantiloop set to IAA (again works better for some reason)

Roxsyn and Altispace are on aux's

I have various other Auv3's running and step by step I'm adding more.

AUM is currently at about 38%

Edit : That should be ,'I'm setting this to midi clock for the next week or so...',...

  • Hey, pardon if I missed it in the previous pages or another thread, but has anyone been experiencing problems opening BM3 with AB3? BM3 doesn't open in AB3 anymore. What's up with that?

It has always needed to be opened first, before AB3, then to be added into AB3. Try closing down both, then opening BM3 first.
