Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Download on the App Store

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

I have the LP-X and LKminiMK3 doing keys entry of course. I love the ARP and Fixed Chords function on the mk3 :)![]

So are they connected to a hub /USB host?

Nice compact setup btw. Damn that X looks tasty!

Yeah. Using an Anker USB Hub. I really like the feel of the pads.

I'm curious. Is there a list of scales somewhere ? Not sure the list for the pro will translate since the pro has 32 scales versus the X.

I own a launchpad pro. I honestly hope we get components for that. That being said if the mini can indeed switch scales without needing a pc I'm literally going to go buy one right now. That tiny footprint more than makes up for lacking all the stuff my pro has....

I have the X. Not sure about the features of the Mini.

Here’s the manual for the mini mk3:
    https://customer.novationmusic.com/sites/customer/files/downloads/Launchpad Mini - User Guide.pdf

You cannot switch scales on the mini, It doesn’t have the scale mode that is on the X....I think the scale mode on X may be the extra one that it has over the mini.....if you want different scales then you need to use different custom modes, each setup differently.

The mini has 3 custom pads you can use, by default one is setup as chromatic keys, another 4 x 4 x 4 drum grids and a blank one.

Well. That clinched it for me. Grabbed the X. It's pads are so much smoother than my pro. Now that I have this for traditional scale modes etc I'm going to run some custom sequencer firmwares on my pro.

Are you able to use both the Launchpads, X & Pro together in Ableton?

It'd be a nice set up to have the Pro for the clip launching and session controls, and then the X as a playing surface.

I used to use the pro alongside my original launchpad running that push emulator script. Prime95 ? Can't remember it but I'm pretty sure it should work. I won't be able to test it till I get back to India on the 14th of November....

You can certainly have multiple mini’s running in ableton, by setting different device I’d’s to them....it’s in the manual, Would be surprised in the pro didn’t have the device I’d setting...

  • @SpookyZoo The pads, if they are the same as the LK mini, are pretty good to me, they suit my style of playing.....Most likely the X has the same pads.....
Have been running the minis side by side tonight with the Ampify apps..all I’m saying...bye,I’m going back for more...

Guess all we need now is an updated mult-track ‘record’ on that Launchpad App..

    Edit.. well, and ‘snapshots.... scenes’.

  • OMHO they won't make an app editor : too expensive.
As the X is 100 € less than the Pro, it's a bargain with what's included... (scale mode, velocity, templates...)
Not perfect, but quite good, I can set my templates then fix them, then play them.
To me that's the main point, and it does the job...

Just saying that Novation did a wonderful job here...

I actually own the pro. I grabbed the X just for the smaller footprint and the better and softer pads. It's almost as nice as the Ableton push 2.... The x is surprisingly heavy though.

😁 It would be nice for sure...but to get this controller experience...I’ll wait 🎧

I dont get it? You can make a scale mode keyboard for the mini in components. Since you can do that, wouldnt scale mode be redundant?

To make an app editor from scratch, yes, it would be expensive. But to convert the existing components web midi software for iOS, wouldn’t that be much easier and less expensive proposal since most all of the work has been done? Hell at least offer a paid app. Novation could make a few bucks; yes?

Maybe @AmpifyxNovation should get into the mix and ask for the code from novation to transfer the launchpad template editors to be used on their Launchpad app for iOS.

I will say; “novation did a wonderful job” once they start learning that it is critical to appeal to the needs of iOS musicians, which means start making their hardware editors for iOS as well as desktop as standard operating process. IMHO it makes no sense to not appeal to the iOS market when making midi controllers. In one respect they did appeal to iOS musicians cos honestly the mini or X in stand alone mode are EXACTLY an iPad musicians dream controller. But no iOS app support for such an iOS friendly hardware midi control is a pretty poor move.

Its like; “almost got it right” but “we just don’t feel like making it to the finish line”. It’s not just frustrating but it’s really Sad.

So now, we get to hope and wait for a new developer to make an unofficial version of the app we need. It’s going to cost real money. And novation loses out-in the end. Basically we have to wait for a developer to rip off novation. Again.

Its so much easier to do things the right way from day one.

This is software on your iPad that you don’t need a web browser or desktop computer to get scales and the scales are... LOTS and switchable

The scale modes works independent of the editor. Components doesn't work in iOS so without a PC/mac you can't change the scales unless you have a dedicated scale mode

    Oh yeah, true that.

  • Is there a downloadable editor for Launchpad Mini 3 that I could load onto my PC? My PC can not access internet so I was hoping that there was actual software I could download with a different computer to put on a flash drive to put on my PC.

Sorry man I don't have a PC near me tonight but I'm pretty sure if you go on components site, a pop up asks you if you want to get the standalone version of it for offline.. might have to be on a PC for the prompt perhaps

Edit. Think I found it. http://customer.novationmusic.com/register Or https://novationmusic.com/components

    BeatMaker 3 | + Launchpad Mini 3

Finally figured out how to connect the two. Now if only I can get the custom DRUMs option to connect to BM3 in a way where one set of 16 connects to tab or track 1 and the next 16 are for track 2, then the next, track 3 and finally the last 16 is on track 4. I might have it figured out by the end of the day but any of you know how to make this happen, please post. Thanks!

May not be what you’re looking for, but it looks like gridinstrument (iOS) integrates with launch pads to provide scale mode. I probably learnt that from this thread, certainly saw a video covering that somewhere recently.

    EDIT: oops redundant comment.

  • Novation Components has been Downloaded and installed on to my Windows 7 PC and guess what? It’s looking for a newer version of Windows. Gods Damn it!

All I wanted to do was play with the custom pads templates before I pack up this PC for good.

For anyone here who still does not get why I have bugged Novation about making iOS Apps for their controllers and other products let me share with you an example.

My band mate recently got himself a Roli Blocks Pad. He loves his desktop PC. This is a huge super powered work horse of a PC but you can’t take it to gigs with you.
For our performance we only use iPad Pros. Anyhow, he had assembled this really complicated set up in AUM. He used the desktop app for his Roli to make it work on the channels in AUM he needed. So, we are at the performance site and during sound check he stumbled on to a problem and that problem impacted how his Roli was set up. Guess what, like, Novation, Roli is kind of oblivious to to the growing culture of mobile music production on iOS. Their own app, Noize, has all of this integrated functionality for their Roli Block and still didn’t think to include the Needed editor.

Anyhow my buddy figured something else out but it just was not what he planned nor wanted. Had Roli included the editor in Noize, this would have been an easy fix. But at the end of the evening he discovered that an independent developer had made a Roli Pads editor for iOS.

This segways to my closing point. Thankfully, there is a developer working on making an iOS app to make templates for these new LaunchPad Mini MK3 and LaunchPad X.

    More on this soon...
