Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

    Hello @TasTax . I like your app.
I know that that it is possible to add swing per track.
I'm wondering if it would possible to add offset (or even better a push / pull like in zenbeat) in the parameter locks
    Thanks,

Thank you! 😊 And yes, unfortunately it’s not so easy to implement and we think due to the great demand, next step will be the iPhone version. But we definitely also have offset pretty high on our list.

And @Slush , yes play directions are on our list as well. But what do you mean exactly with the shift/ lane? 🙂

    iPhone version… 🤞😮‍💨🤞

    Oh yes!

  • This dude is a hero!

Mh, ok, but you don’t mean the move X and Y option we have in the pattern menu popup, no?

Oh! I had no idea it’s already there, must have overlooked that :# My apologies.

Is that per lane, though? I suspect it's for the full pattern. I'd like to be wrong there and it would be a nice feature to have it per lane.

No, no problem. Maybe it is not obvious enough. And You also have the move X option per lane if you long press on one on the left side 😊
Please also see the manual on that.

    Cool, thanks for the reply.

  • I see in the mappings a spelling mistake, it says ’vanator’ but should be ‘vatanator’. :)

Hey everybody, happy new year to everyone! ✌️🍀☮️🙂 And thank you so much for supporting the development of the 16 track version of OCTACHRON so great. Hope you like it!

So next step due to the great demand is the phone version.
And to make it in the best way possible, we would like to know what your use cases and workflows would be with that?
For example would you like to do?

    • Full multi instrumental sessions in AUM?
    • Full Productions in Cubasis or Logic?
    • Mainly Sketches? And if, how finish them?
    • More on the go or in more quiet environments? Where?
    • Use Mainly landscape or portrait orientation?
    • Use the phone alone or as a second screen? And if, Together with what?
    • Or Control hardware with it?
    • Or which aspects would be important for you?
    • and which iPhone model do you use?

But these are just examples. Please tell us what you would like to do with it, and how your workflow would be.
The more detailed, the better. So we can do the best Phone version for you.

Thx so much in advance again and the best greetings from Munich ✌️🎶😊 Tas

  • Hi @TasTax

I would use Octachron in Loopy Pro. This is where I generate ideas but usually ends up as way more than just a sketch. I’ll dip into it any chance I get on the phone - sat on the sofa, lunch break, sometimes even when walking along, or on the toilet 😂
I’ll Occasionally airdrop to iPad for a longer session there, then back to iPhone again.

When I’m happy that all the bits are there, I export midi where possible and recreate in Logic Pro for final arrangement and mix/master.

I have iPhone 15 pro max.

  • Hey @gregsmith ,

Oh yes, very interesting. Thank you very much.
And would a portrait-optimized version be important for you or is just landscape OK?

  • @TasTax I think I found a little bug: left below where you set velocity you press the arrow all the way down to ‘cc’, but from there I could not go back up again with the up-arrow. Not working. (Apematrix)

I would be over the moon with a portrait layout, but I’m used to this not being an option so wouldn’t be bothered if it was just landscape.

  • iPhone landscape

  • Hey thanks for the update @TasTax I'm finding the Koala map a bit off though, doesn't seem to trigger the last two pads for some reason. Be great if you could fix this :)

  • These 16 lanes are fantastic. Love this update so much @TasTax Love this app so much. Cheers!

Offset and iPhone would both be great. Massive fan of this app.

Hey @Slush, thx for the right Vatanator spelling and this recent feedback. Though I checked it and I don’t think it is a bug. It’s just that per default there are several equal CC labels and you might get the impression it doesn’t change. But if you press the arrow or swipe up a few times more, the other values should appear again no?

And @oldsynthguy, thanks as well, but I couldn’t make out a bug here as well. Did you make sure that you use the right 8X2 or 4X4 mapping, depending on which Koala view you are using?

Thank you so much for your answers everybody. Could you maybe point out how you want to use a phone version of OCTACHRON even a bit more, like Gregsmith did e.g.? That would help us so much to build the best version for you. I made some examples of it in my post. But anyway, every feedback of you helps. Thanks a lot for your support! ❤️😊

  • @TasTax

One reason I’m keen on the iPhone version is because my iPad is aging, but my iPhone is fairly new. Not sure when a new ipad will be in the cards, so I’d love to be able to use this amazing sequencer on my iPhone when needed, or I’m out and about. I’d basically use it the same way I do on ipad, a sweet drum sequencer, and sometimes other sequencing experiments. I think it’s clean, and simple interface will lend itself nicely to the smaller screen. Some apps with more complex GUI’s don’t always make the jump to a smaller screen so easily. Part of the beauty of this app is its depth combined with its simplicity, and I think that will translate over to the smaller screen quite nicely.

Another important consideration is opening up the app to a lot more potential customers. there are way more iPhones out there than iPads. Therefore the iPhone version will allow more people the option to buy and use this great app, which should in turn help you sell more copies and keep Octachron rocking for a very long time. Cheers!

    @TasTax

I’m a big fan of Octachron. I was using it for so many things, I left a glowing review on the App Store as well.

The new update, while great, rendered Octachron unusable in Logic Pro. Would you be able to look into this?

Here’s a video showing the issue:

    https://youtube.com/shorts/FzkzRUiluFQ?si=LFpyPsQNfQFXCEQB

  • On the phone, I’m happy with the app as is as I don’t have an iPad but love messing with sequencers. The pre-assigned CCs for all the drum apps, the swing features and the way randomisation and mutation works is what appeals about Octachron to me. Portrait would be nice but not necessary. Being able to easily set different speeds, lengths and divisions per lane would be great.

  • And @oldsynthguy, thanks as well, but I couldn’t make out a bug here as well. Did you make sure that you use the right 8X2 or 4X4 mapping, depending on which Koala view you are using?

Cheers for the reply, here's how I test:

Load AUM (latest), add Octachron (latest), and Koala (latest). Fill all 16 Koala pads, select the relevant mapping in Octachron, and add one trigger for each pad. Connect and run.

In 8x2 it runs through 14 pads, then skips the last two. In 4x4, it's not starting at the top row, and still misses out the last two pads.

However I've just tested this on an older iPad that has an earlier version of iOS, and it worked perfectly.

So it seems to be an issue on my newer iPad, that's running 16.5.

You are right, I must have pressed a little too long down on the cc, thanks!😊

    ode/messe noire/easy jam with Octachron

(image) a one-goblin marching band performs a fake dub for a Bavarian barbarian who was ritually sacrificed to commemorate the doubling of the cute monster’s tentacle’s at Dublin

    Apps used for the jam:
Octachron, Koala Sampler, KQ Unotone, MixBox, TB Barricade, AUM and Wavebox
-Wavebox app was used to get around the capacity/size limit for uploading a file directly to the forum.
-The drum machine sounds were sampled from Cubasis IAP.
-The "Bixxh" vocal sample was extracted(?) from Sheck wes’s track "Gmail" using Koala's Split Stems feature, AFAICR.
-Koala’s brain was hacked by the scary ancient evil god of Octacthulhu with 16 tentacles. (In other words, Koala app was used only as a sampler).
[Incidentally, actual/real koala brains have no wrinkles/sulci, but koala fingers have fingerprints. So I wonder if the name of the Koala app is a twisted analogy of Bruce Lee’s words "Don't think. Feel." (mainly) for touch screen devices, in a good way. (The similarity of fingerprints between koalas and humans is an example of convergent evolution, btw).]

    (EDITED)
This track was replaced with a version that does not use the "Bixxh" sample. (Because I felt uneasy).

  • Either I've turned into a real Midiot or something fiddly is going on, probably the former.

I'm trying to get MIDI events from Octachron to Koala (all in Aum) and it seems no notes will hit on Koala's lower right pad. Using either of Octachron's Koala presets and with Koala's UI 4/4 like a drum machine, then painting hits in Octachron lane one, it outputs MIDI to the pad above the bottom furthest left pad in Koala (Note 48 in Octachron's Koala preset) where normally a kick is. Ok, so I've gone in Octachrons settings and changed that so lane one outputs to the lower left below that one (Using note 55). That works.

Next step, adjusting each lane in Octachron so they output progressively from lower left to upper right in Koala. It's working, up until the furthest right pad in the bottom row of Koala. There's a sample in there and I can manually press the pad and it plays fine. Yet, going through notes 0 up to 127 in Octachron will not play that bottom right pad in Koala.

Also, why does each MIDI hit from Octachron that is landing correct in Koala sound like like a partial of the sample? I can manually press the pad in Koala and hear it right and I only have notes sparsely going to them. Must be obvious things, but doing my head in. Anyone have any idea?

Do you have the samples in koala set to one shot? If not, give it a try, maybe the triggers from octachron are not long enough to go through the full samples.

@tyslothrop1 Ahh! That's so right on. Thanks. Trying to sort the first MIDI part out for some hours had me not thinking clear.

Crazy, 0 notes from 1-127 in Octachron will send to that lower right pad in Koala though. I've tried it hosted as AU in AUM and standalone. That's gonna give me some OCD.

Edit: Also, third row up. None of the notes except for the far left pad will accept MIDI from any Octachron note 0-127. Maybe something to do with the change to 16 lanes?

Didi you read the post by @oldsynthguy a couple posts back? Maybe check what iOS version you're on and post, as older versions seem to work fine. Might help the dev.

  • @tyslothrop1 Nope, but that's exactly the kind of weird missing note behavior I'm getting from it. It's in the appropriate Koala layout for the appropriate Octachron preset. Making my own custom presets simply wont send out to those specific Koala pads. I'm on 17.2 and the latest app store version. Sent an e-mail to them.
