Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Granular Synthesis: Your favorite cereals

There have been some nice granular synths come out for iOS recently.

What are some of your favorite sounds to sample for use in granular synths? Other synthesis types? Which? Strings, horns, bells, birds? ? Sounds with certain effects on them?

FM from the SV1....birds from the backyard are fantastic too..

  • Geoshred overdubbed a couple times sounds nice, vocal snippets both singing and speaking, singing bowls and bells, any acoustic stringed instrument playing a few diff chords

  • I’ve been Quanta-fying some of the patches of my Kawai K5000 which has an additive + pcm engine. The [replace] sample feature in Quanta is killer...

  • Evolving sounds with lots of harmonic and inharmonic overtones/partials.
Sound FX and evolving soundscapes work well - find a grain with the correct pitch, play away. Then sweep the grain position with a delayed LFO.

Try looking for the sample library in your older desktop synths or online. Bring them into AudioShare.

Currently enjoying converting 'earthporn' and airplane cockpit photos to wav using Virtual ANS, then loading the wav in Quanta/tardigrain/Spacecraft/iDensity... Quanta makes an evil 'wavetable' bass synth reminiscent of the old PPG/Waldorf on steroids. Plus the usual granular pads and soundscapes.

  • Still SamplR and Apesoft Sparkle B)

  • Great ideas all. Thanks.

  • I'm rocking Quanta, Borderlands, and Samplr. They're all great, though Quanta is kind of a bitch to use on iOS.
