This is the 48th consecutive month that SOTMC has run :)

My entry for the month, it's an instrumental this time:

Nice! and shares a name with my fave Cure track

Thanks! I'm also a fan of that Cure track. Aged 19, telling my GF at the time that "I like Pornography" went down like a lead balloon. (for the uninitiated Pornography is the name of the Cure album that song can be found on).

LOL ! just had a peep at the video on youtube... Hanging Garden -The Cure,.. it hasnt aged too well :D

That was my comment for the holiday season. A gadget production, as usual:

Would love to hear some comments.

    no link ?

oopsy... I‘ve changed to a Soundcloud Pro account, which seems to have messed up the link...another try:

Not a massive amount of iPad on this one (just a bit of Thumbjam played live), mostly Maschine/Reason, but hope you enjoy it anyway:

took a couple of listens to get into this... some great elements but the mix is a bit washy to my ears. would like a less reverby, more upfront mix with drums brought to the front. im thinking along the lines of Underworld's, Dirty Epic which this has a similar vibe too. love the crescendos midway through your track BTW..

Cheers, yeah fair points - drums and mixes are probably my weak spots. I think this is where working solo lets me down, no-one around to bounce ideas off. I’m planning to revisit this one anyway, beef the drums up a bit and add some guitar and bass, maybe more vocals. To be honest though it was only a day in the making, so I don’t mind having another stab at it.

    Thanks for listening!

Hi everybody! New to the forum, but looking to become an active member of the SOTMC. Here is my first submission (made 100% on my iPad). Be nice....just kidding, be honest! I will look forward to listening to orhers’ tracks soon and providing helpful comments. Thank you!!

@gusgranite You had expressed interest a couple weeks ago when I first joined AB...here you go!

I like this track. In the future I would caution on overuse of destructive effects... even though I do think you used them well and the track is really balanced overall, I personally think it would have sounded good maybe better if not so many of your elements were being distorted/ clipped. But really that is just personal taste, well done mate.

Thanks! That sound effect is a Milpitas (iWavestation) patch called Alien Dreams.

NOT NINE MINUTES long (bwahahaha) under 3.

Done in AUM, Aphelian, ToneStack, Sunriser (I think - all I have left is the soundfiles :( )
    Quick mixing in MultiTrackDAW.

Still can't hear the bass without headphones and there are tooo many harmonics floating around. (I know nothing about guitars or guitar sounds)

I have yet to figure out anything more than live recording tracks that's why some lack of song structure and part breaks in my tracks.

I really like that Aphelian "guitar", really cool sound there. Quite a bouncy groove and it's a fun track. It could definitely do with some structure though, and maybe also a melody in parts - I think the Aphelian generated sounds were really great in the intro but it would have been good to have some more variety and musical ideas in the track, so maybe a section with a human-composed melody would have made a great contrast to the Aphelian stuff.

Nice drum groove, which really helps the track to bop along, but again a few fills or extra beats here and there would be nice.

Is that guitar sound one of the built-in sounds in Aphelian BTW?

Did a little track inspired by "With Rainy Eyes" by Emancipator this month. Turned out pretty chill.

It's pretty much a straight-up cover, but very nice guitar playing. Love the guitar tone in the intro, and there's a great performance there. Beats and mix work well too.

Guitar sounds, well all the sounds, were generated outside of Aphelian. It just served as the midi generator controller.

Happy New Year everyone... A New year... A new entry.. But now I can share "Snippet" tracks. I had to do it for certain reasons.. (I just had to put about over 800 of my tracks into Sound Clouds Private Only Playlist.. Bloody Pain in the Arse that was!!!... ).... ;) … Also, on the positive side, the songs wont go on for a long time, like they did in the past... :D

nice track. would like it slowed down a bit maybe!?

Thanks mate... ;) 125bpm is too fast for House music then?????... :D

Great feedback on the overuse of destructive effects on this one. Thank you so much!!

  • I have been absent from the club for a bit...I have mainly been reworking old tunes and not making properly new stuff...I am back onto making new stuff so expect a new entry at some point :)

@richardyot A new style....Nice vibe, love the use of the 'vocal' sounds ... did miss your vocals though.
@1nsomniak Had me nodding as soon as the beat kicked in. a few extra kicks in the main pattern would lift it I think. Good stuff
@trackedout Your stuff is getting better and better all the time, and it was decent in the first place ! A bit loose at points, but that suits it I think. Keep it going
@marmakin Good first entry...took me to a sunny afternoon at a festival. Follows my often used trick of 'I will hammer this slightly quirky pattern into your head until you get it'
@studs1966 I need a handbag, so I can dance around it to this, the usual great production
@monzopro Really like the digeridoo type sound and the rhythm of this, vocals are nicely used .... and some nice mini-scaping too. This one seems a bit more cohesive than some of your other stuff, like everything is coming together...That Maschine suits you.....I really like it...mix could be a little 'cleaner' to bring the drums out a touch more.
@tjporter Nice, you hit the mark with what you wanted, like the visuals too.
@audiblevideo I think you could drop volume on the guitar sound a touch, it would let the rest come through a little better...liked it overall
@shiftsynth1 Have not heard the original that inspired this. I like the instrumentation and arrangement, playing is nice too. I thought it was going to be a folk song at the start, retains elements of that throughout but it goes beyond.
@LeonKowalski Good stuff, Love the bass saw synth in particular, some nice use of stereo too.

Fuck yeah man, this is my shit. Great jam, love that you are cutting down on the length a bit. My one thought, Some of what makes funk so groovy is the space which you just nailed in the beginning but lose a tad as it goes. I think the culprit is the strings, I think its just makes the mix to dense. I get that they have a place in soul so I get your decision but I think you sacrificed some of the groove doing that, just my gut though.

I dig the groove. When you say that you know nothing about guitars/ guitar sounds did you record in a guitar using tone stack or did you use a guitar loop and messed around with it using tone stack?

Anything that I record in from a live instrument I immediately slap a compressor on it and EQ (usually just a preset for guitar until it sounds right, they usually cut the low end and boost the mids) to tame the sound a bit, If it doesn't sit in the mix well I will add a LPF to soften the tone more. Just some ideas to experiment with.

    @shiftsynth1 Thanks for the tips.
I've spent more than a couple of hours and a couple of dollars trying different approaches to getting guitar tones on iOS. I've even tried rolling my own from off the shelf synth engines, and adding FX EQ etc.
The guitar in this track was Sunriser iTar with the delay and reverb off and adding Tonestack.
I've used in the past S T R N G which has really cool controls which can be midi modulated. It gives a pretty cool effect but loses its guitarness in some registers and then needs to be re-tweaked

    .

Sample based apps like ifretlessGuitar (Jam Maestro <– which is awesome guitar bass and drum sequencer) just don't have the initial sound or pluck I'm looking for. I really really love the app Guitarism but it gets increasingly harder to use in the more recent iOS workflow. Yonaks Steel Guitar is good but doesn't have midi in to drive the sounds in a sequencer. OMGuitar sounds nice but hard to give articulation to as well without directly manipulating in the app. I currently looking into soundfonts to collect a number of guitars.

@AndyPlankton I lowered the guitar this last time around, but yeah it could stand to be a touch lower.

Cheers Andy, those drums again...I need to work on my drums! I have made an effort to be a bit more cohesive though, hopefully the next one will be even more so.

I liked it. It definitely had the chord progression and other subtler tropes of a pop song but being lower in energy than an anthem kept it from being exactly so generic.

I do feel like the vocals could use a little more intensity (growl) like you were singing as if you body was clenched. It would be great if you could give that intensity while still being not full voice. After thinking about it and singing along myself realizing that keeping it mostly falsetto actually complements the lyrical content and the story of the song. Intense, relaxed, intense, relaxed gives the idea of the struggle your lyrics tell.

    Bravo.

    Hello all,

The is my first post on this forum. There is a lot to read. The last years I made music on my iPad, meanly using Nanostudio. I use Audiobus for pluggin in some cool synths like AniMoog and Sunrizer. Now I’m using Korg Gadget a lot. Some of the songs I made are on Spotify and my new album is being released soon.

This is a track I made a while ago. Hope you like it and give me some feedback.

Not my kind of music but production wise a very nice track! I agry with @audiblevideo that the vocals could use more intensity. At 2:12 the energy stays the same as before. Maybe you can put in some more energy from that point. It makes the track more dynamic and less flat.
