Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

OT: MacBook Pro Touch Bar

Anyone using a MacBook Pro with the Touch Bar? I was playing with one at the Apple Store this weekend, and the integration with Logic Pro X seems pretty cool.

Not sure how well it works with other music software? Or does it end up just being a gimmick?

  • I have one of those with a touch bar, but I don't use it for music making. In general it (the touch bar) can be handy, but it is more of a gimmick in the end. I really like how it can integrate with various apps and carry different functions depending on situation. However, as it is absolutely void of tactile feedback I quite often miss the buttons by a few millimeters, which obviously is enough to not trigger them, and it can take a couple of attempts, during which time you are usually thinking "an old-fashioned button would have worked too right?". :)

As I am a touch typer, the only time I totally and fully have to watch my keyboard is when I need to use the touch bar.
If you do get it I can recommend you also get the software BetterTouchTool, which initially was intended for increasing the functionality of the touchpad on Macs, but which has grown to include all kinds of nifty little helper functionality both for keyboards, mice and now lately, the touch bar.
