Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Download on the App Store

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

IS THERE AN APP THAT? Audio to MIDI note

I am looking to use Circuit audio coming in to trigger midi notes in another app.

Any thoughts?

    ThumbJam?

    I don't know.

    I guess will look.

I sort of remember Infinite Looper or one of his apps having in audio trigger feature.

    Maybe....

Thumbjam works pretty well for that.

Here is a thread on that, with TJ setup and audio example.

Yes infinite looper has it, not sure if it's realtime though...also his other app MIDIMorphosis does it.

One question though, If you are using audio from Circuit, why not just pick up the MIDI as well and use that ? Or is this because your MIDI out stopped working on Circuit ?

  • MIDI Guitar 2 is the best on iOS for tracking audio to MIDI in real time.

Because I am looking to do totally unnecessary original way of making things complicated to aggravate myself and have my sessions fucked up because I am trying "new" things.........LOL

  • MIDImorphosis is awful last time I tried it. Thumjam I’ve only tried humming and whistling into the iPad mic so it was a bit iffy that way. Why do you need audio to trigger MIDI? The Circuit has MIDI out I’m sure you know.

Did you try typing "audio to midi" into that thing that looks like a search box at the top of this site?

    Hmmm

+1 on MIDI Guitar 2 for iOS. It is quite impressive for translating guitar to MIDI. Don't know how it does with non-guitar sources. The free version should give you a pretty good idea of whether it will work.

If you just want a specific note to trigger depending on the threshold of the incoming audio and not follow the pitch of the incoming audio, you could use FAC Envolver AU.

In AUM (or ApeMatix) you could route the audio into several channels containing a filter / Envolver combinations each to trigger different midi notes on bass, snare or highhat input which then in turn trigger sounds of another dumset app. Kind of ‚poor mans drumagog’

    Lol.... @syrupcore coming in hot!

I hear you brother but I think sometimes a person wants their inquiry to be answered by someone who has direct experience with the topic. And I think excitement and urgency to get answers gets mistaken for laziness.

You know how you tease your cousin in a way you'd never tease someone you just met? It's that. Rustik's been around long enough to know/get ABForumCousin status. I wouldn't UTFSF a n00b. I also wouldn't hit up someone I just met for money but a cousin... Rustik, check your PMs.

    Does it have LINK?

Because I only use LINK things with Audio Units?

    Yes?

  • I had always heard that the real-time efforts at doing this were below-average to awful. Tons of latency, inaccurate notes, and only really works monophonic. MultiTrackStudio converts raw audio to MIDI data, but I don't think it does it in the way you are looking for.

I think MIDI Guitar 2 does an admirable job.

Not perfect, obviously, but for the relatively small outlay ...

ThumbJam is worth getting anyway, it’s tracking is pretty good too.

What you heard was accurate up to several years ago, but processors are a lot faster and the way that pitch is detected has gotten better. MIDI Guitar 2 is very impressive and while a friend finds that his Fishman Triple Play (hardware setup) is faster with fewer tracking errors, he also concedes that the MIDI Guitar 2 is pretty close. It will even track fast clean monophonic lines.

It does not do a great job on strumming 6-note chords but in mono mode it works well if you are a reasonably clean player and is serviceable for four-note chords if you play clean.

  • Doesn't the new ApeMatrix thing have a pitch tracker?

    Let me check

  • I'm thinking @FredAntonCorvest may be considering adding Pitch-Tracking to Envolver as it can already send out midi-notes based on the loudness of the signal.

Adding Pitch Tracking would be a pretty natural 'Next Step' for Envolver ;)
