Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

MidiDesigner BCR2000 template for Aum, Au fx, Quantum & Quanta in ab3

edited August 2018 in General App Discussion

Last edit: if you're interested, take a look on the topic in http://mididesigner.com/qa/6689/bcr2000-template-for-aum-au-fx-quantum-&-quanta-in-ab3 where there may be some more elaborated details & templates to be found for Aum
and Quantum.
Cheers :]

Hey forum-crew,

Yet another schizo-attempt on an integrated setup, here it goes:

Aum hosting Quanta and some audiodamage and BramBos fx on a mix-bus, streaming through aufx:Space in AudioBus3, driven by Quantum (and a keyboard).

In the background, MidiDesigner Pro2 is providing the holographic scenery fed by a Behringer BCR2000 controller and to an USB audio/midi interface.

The ab3 preset state-saved Quantum and Aum, and the Mididesigner preset with three pages provides for the virtual replication of Aum mixer, Quantum notes and some other things, as well as aufx:Space/au fx parameters.

The relative complexity is founded on some peculiarities of the interconnectivity between the frameworks. Though quite a bit of mapping has to be involved to set it up with your units, from there it should turn out to be easy and convenient, esp. re loading procedure and link start/stop ...

To begin the begin, with MidiDesigner running already, when you start from ab3, a sequence in Quantum will show up (tap on 'new rack', or eventually 'load from disk'), (double-)tapping the global start/stop button in the ab sidebar should synchronize the participants, in Quantum, setting 'midi in' unlocks the keyboard, and 'out' on the ab output (devices) needs to be enabled, too.

As for the BCR2000, to control Aum, the sequencer, aufx and the au fx, three presets (three pages on the BCR) correspond to three pages (MDP), to be switched to manually (as in mididesigner too), every page a preset. The knobs and buttons are 'picked-up' while playing.

To record-arm Aum's tracks, push the upper row encoders (double-tap off).
Aufx:Space needs to be activated manually, and the midi set to virtual input.

In mididesigner one has to map the hardware controls via midi-learn, on the pedal-boards, revealed by a swipe-up (distributed over both pages, in one bank). That's the tedious part presumably, but then you saved yourself the template designing procedure (although I have been enjoying it ;) ) and remember to double-tap 'store' on the BCR often. The track controls are premapped for Aum, as for the fx (changeable of course), although for more sends or parameters, please midi-learn yourself ;)

This collection could be useful for a remote bluetooth connection or in slideover...

cheers, take care

Crs

P.S.:

Will try to improve it over time, f.e. now the sequencer has options for six sequences to be selected by the upper row of push buttons on the BCR, and the third row of knobs relates to range A-D, and a few other parameters (please see image).

Plus, with a virtual MidiFire port going out to the hardware controller, you can see the different sequences updated, and the lights move in a kind of feedback when engaging '<' and '>' :) And if you plug a Rozeta LFO to the MF port in Aum's Matrix, you can watch it modulating away.

Greetings

P.p.s.: And if somebody would like to try and help me on this, it is appreciated of course, thanks!

If you mean midi-learning the Controller's controls to the supercontrols on Mididesigner's pedalboard (behind the pages), in principle, yes, the layout is for the bcr, red knobs/buttons (for Aum) are mapped to midi chs.1-8(and a bit of 9), green ones (for Quantum) ch.9; blue ones (au(fx)) ch.10.
However, on a glance, maybe the crossmapping would mess up your audio ... it seems to be favorable to just put the kross in the midi input place on the ab3 midipage to record arps into Quantum sequences ;)
If you think of a mididesigner layout to control the K, although there are lots of different ones for korg (f.e. Krome), this hasn't been made yet.

    More integration ...

  • Totally overwhelmed, going to save this topic as favorite - just in case

  • Bookmarked. Will delve in next week, thanks for sharing.

Its great that you've created your own layout for Quantum. You could have even more control using nrpn.

Makes me think I need and option to extend the RT panel in Quantum to route directly to Q controls.

    Is midifire just monitoring?

    Do you have this recorded?

    Funnily enough I have a bcr2000 :)

    Hey, @midiSequencer
    MidiFire is 'reflecting' :]

The ab preset should play with some luck.
Midi mapped in Quantum already, /learning the Bcr on two (on different channels, here: 9,10,11) pages.

Time to dust of the BCR2000 - although I have Zaqencer Fireware installed.

If I just do a factory reset will this work with your setup. Some step my step instructions might be good here for people wanting to dive in.

    @Dchild

Ok, the downloadable mididesigner layout opened, patiently map the controls on a bcr page to the controllers on the mididesigner pedalboard page with learn. Do this with another bcr page and select them ('< preset >') according to what you see distributed on the md pages.

It will be functional with any midi controller (also virtual), because the mappings on the playing surface are directed to Quantum's parameters (at least in the ab preset).

Load Midifire to create a kind of loop back to the bcr, so every change in notes, vel. etc. will be mirrored by its lights. The trick is to activate midi in and select midi output/device send midi for 'out'.

Change sequences / notes, vel., gate, etc. by pushing the upper row knobs (buttons in the layout).
The lower rows represent notes (faders), but also all other parameters like vel., time etc.

The bcr is on U4, connected via usb interface and if no midi traffic can be seen, plug/unplug the cable.

The mididesigner layout is the intermediary instance but can act 'standalone'.

Could you develop a bit that part please ?
Activate midi in, on the BCR2000 I guess, but what about "select midi output/device send midi for 'out'. " ?
    Thanks !

    @crony yes,
The MidiFire virtual output is only set up inside midifire, like in the pic. In Quantum activate 'midi in' (near the record button) and in devices, midi input (ab). Tap 'out' in devices, midi output, option 'send midi for' to send the faders' position. The bcr just needs to be the input source in MidiDesigner.
