Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

Now let's talk about how cool these new features are

How about adding .wav export? Cubasis users would find that helpful.

No... IAA and AB are obsolete. But I gonna make it fullscreen AU one day. AU preferred size is already supported by some daw.

the only issue is with full screen AU. apps like this need a full screen because they have so much going on. playing a lot of apps like model 15 in cubasis is a pita.

  • Oh hell yes!
    Take. My. Money.

  • Ordered. @benkamen , will the beta s be sent to your existing patterning 1 beta testers, or do you want a new list?

No... IAA and AB are obsolete.

    That's absurd.
Drum machines are categorically different. SeekBeats, iSpark, Patterning, Elastic Drums, Future Drummer (and all Martinez apps), Drum Jam, iElectribe, Grooverider, iMaschine, Impaktor, iMPC Pro2, DM2 and DM1, Ton — not one of these is AU. These are all IAA/AB, and yet they have been used probably at every session by almost everybody in this thread.

And taking nothing away from the brilliance of the Ruismakers, most AU drum machines (Vatanator, MV08 — am I forgetting any?) are really, really limited.

  • @ExAsperis99
i don't use AUs very often at all. i like standalone apps i use because of the full screen feature. drum apps aren't any different if the still have to involve the hassle of using another app just for state saving..

I’m a little disappointed there is no iPhone app. And no auv3.

    Pass.

If I were a Cubasis kid still then yes I would use drum machines a LOT more but now I just plunk my beats in BM3 at least 90% of the time without drum machine / grooveboxes. Patterning is the only one to really survive for me as it plays pretty well with BM3 midi wise, is a delight to use, and has the cloud kits which I LOVE. Moving forward though, just thinking of the untapped potential of AUV3, particularly the midi side, is why I am becoming a bit hard liney. But yah, I will still get it, maybe AU shows up, maybe not.

  • I remember where I was when I excitedly bought Patterning on day one! We were counting down the hours to release and I think there was a little blip. For all the hype it still impressed me however Ive only recently started properly using it. It not being an AU3 doesnt concern me and Ive not got any crackles when switching screens with this app when I host it in AUM.

Patterning set the bar, clever design, perfect midi implementation and some amazing updates that took it to new levels, like midi note out, ability to use midi cc and Cloud Kits. Stunningly unexpected stuff.

The only thing I occasionally miss in the original is the ability to bypass the interface and use my midi controllers to trigger the kits. Any chance of midi in support @benkamen ?

Patterning 2, I cant wait to get my hands on it.

man you gotta take a look at the feature list... your wish has been granted!

  • I'd just like to point out that just because there are those of us that prefer to us AUv3, it doesn't mean we're not psyched for Patterning 2.

I for one already pre-ordered it.

  • As a Patterning 2 paying customer, I demand access to the beta! B)

(I hope that sounded threatening enough to work)

  • :D me too brother, I can't stand the heart ache associated with bugs

Patterning is already a masterpiece, the new features sound like they will fit in without overcrowding the interface.

Thanks for including support for the new Link, I would update for this one alone :)

  • @kobamoto Ah, yes! Actually a few wishes, cant wait to automate sample start time. Glitchy drums anyone? And new draw erase function, curious! Im day oneing again, wheres that pesky visa hiding?

  • yep this is starting to look like an avalanche of delight headed straight for us. I didn't expect it this soon, Ben is not playing games

  • I've over time been gravitating more to AUv3 for a more convenient workflow, but many apps without it are worth using. This one is, and the new version looks even cooler.

I have 99% of the drum machines and that is the point —- the ones that are AU are more limited. Someone needs to step up and bring the real good stuff to AU and so far for me Drambo seems to be the one.

Patterning 2 would have been a killer AU, I certainly respect the dev’s choice not to implement it ..but that makes it definitely not for moi.

...DrumPerfect, Egoist? Funkbox? and many more, as well as loop players.

Being married to a workflow is great for some people. Too limiting on iOS for me, which offers many ways to work or play. Practically speaking, IAA and AB are still very much alive.

I know most of you are thrilled to pieces about the update and this post isn’t meant to rain on your parade or to detract @benkamen’s efforts. I’m not going to defend or even explain why I feel the way I do. It’s simply my personal workflow preference and since the developer invited comment here it is.

I’m sitting this one out. I don’t need the new features. Patterning 1is fabulous and is good enough for me as-is. I absolutely would drop for the pre sale even without the discount, and probably even before reading the rest of the app description if I saw AUv3 capability, even more so with AUv3 midi-out.

I’m sure I’ll cave and go for p2 on impulse in spite of myself some time after it comes out, but not before, and not when I’m thinking logically, because honestly I don’t need it.

That’s just my preference. I only register it here as I think @benkamen might want to have some kind of gauge of how many people share that mindset.

Can patterning 2 timestretch looped samples? Patterning 1 can't really manage this well and there needs to be some kind of choke option, especially when changing patterns or kits. A better audio editor is needed as well.

  • I love Patterning and own tons of IAA and AU drum apps. I would have preordered with AU (even with fewer of the new and cool features) - but i will persevere till my App-Aquireing-Syndrom kicks in.

For myself AU offers a better workflow when switching between projects to just jam around when ‚time for making music‘ is limited. Just load session in host/daw, press start and jam. No loading of correct IAA preset, no switching to IAA and back to host to avoid IAA ghosts.

    I find myself in agreement.

Patterning is probably my favourite drum app, rivalled only by DrumJam, and the two are not really competing. Design brilliance, in both cases. That said, I think it perfectly fair that customers are able and willing to say what new features they would value. Any developer must assess whether enough customers also want those features. So, I’m going to wait and see what happens here.

  • While I think Patterning is no doubt one of the best stand alone drum apps, I no longer want to work that way.

For myself, I would love to see a Patterning AU Midi and separate sound AU. Splitting the midi from the sound side makes more sense to me. Eventually someone will get this (beyond Bram Bos).

Personally I'd prefer the full patterning all in one AU UI. Sound and midi. Splitting stuff up takes me back toward IAA land... But with midi AU built in to it too so the option is there to just use it with empty tracks to sequence other AU, or combination of both. And all From one UI hosted in a daw.

Even rozeta I find clunky in many cases because they're all separate/specialised. Lots of jumping around still if I want to chain them etc. Something like a full screen modular rozeta with all the different rozetta params crammed inside it would be the ideal end game for me in terms of that kind of plugin..

Drambo seems to nail both sound + sequencing in AU but AFAIK isn't a midi AU for use with other AU? < That would take it over the top...

I find I get on well with what ever Rozeta front end I choose and then using a sound set. The sound set is basically just set and go, while I then use the Rozeta section to create. Thing is with this approach, we could have lots of different designs for controls being made that could then use any sampled sound sets or drum synths. Mix and match for me any day.

  • Why no AU nowadays though? I don’t get it..
