Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Download on the App Store

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

    Soooo great!!!

  • nice find!

  • Brilliant idea and
    nice find :)

  • Only 12.9 iPad?

  • Nice find. All devs which make midi controller apps should support this feature. The only apps I know supporting "slide over" are Thumbjam and Refraktions.

Secret Base Design's Sidecar works very well too--and offers a swiss army knife set of MIDI options.

  • what is "Slide Over mode"?

TC-Data is great in Slide-Over mode. You can even use the ‘Quadrant’ view giving you a slide over of 4 XY pads for any CCs you care to assign.

And how can you tell which apps support it, other than just trying every one of them yourself?

    No other way.
    You need to test this.

In theory, in iOS 11, you drag the app from either home screen or toolbar and it gives you the option of opening it in a seperate screen. As long as you have multitasking enabled in General settings.

Before 11 it was swipe from the right of the screen to open the panel.

In practice it worked for me prior to 11 and subsequent updates have completely killed it.

Apps have to specifically support it.

Drag the dock up with a swipe from the bottom of the screen. From the dock or folder drag the app icon onto the screen.

  • Finally updated to 11.3.1 and got it working again.

Open synth, leave open, swipe up to get toolbar, drag controller app up onto screen.

    StepPolyArp also supports this.

    +1 recommendation for Sidecar.

TC-Data also can be added to list.

I created a TC-DATA patch for Turnado that has not just xy control of parameters but also features such as programme change and randomise on 2 and 3 finger taps....

Using the 4 screen view this is aces in SlideOver.

Stupid Mutitasking! That bit of info is missing from the instructions on the web. Without that enabled it is an excercise in futility.

It is the other way around.

As ChordPolyPad works as slide over, it should work with any app!

But what you want, is a Synth that also allows to be used in Split View - then you can run both side by side in varying percentages of the screen.

We now know that Audulus and Yamaha FM Essential work - I could not find more, but did not run a real test series ;-)

  • @MusicMan4Christ Like this, real Split View not only Slide Over:
