  • Thank you, @studs1966 - this was my first mix with FabFilter Pro L2. Great, very transparent limiter.

@AndyPlankton @Bluepunk this is like John Lydon as guest vocalist on a Dreadzone track. Love the music, it's really good and the contrast with bluey's vitriolic vocalising is pretty cool. To be fair bluey is quite restrained in this one, almost laid-back (Dr probably changed his meds up after complaints from family members and local constabulary).

Would like to see the lyrics in writing, always makes it a little easier to follow the sometimes tricky stream-of-consciousness.

Not in writing but slowed down,,

A great collaboration, you two should hook up again.

    I hope we will :)

This months entry is a collaboration with @bluepunk who has been generous enough to provide his wonderful wit and vocal talents...also @jocphone who has given invaluable input into the mix...thanks both I enjoyed making this with you a lot :)
For the techies.. the tune was initially composed on Novation Circuit and Korg Electribe....I recorded the MIDI into Cubasis to make the arrangement and do the mixing. Other apps making an appearance are Ruismaker FM, Galileo, Rock Drum machine, Kauldron, DDMF Envelope, Kosmonaut, WaveFolder, Dubstation2, Waves Q10, FAC Maxima, Voicerack.

Wow! This is very cool! Technopunk? EPM (Electronic Punk Music)? Great lyrics and a contagious rhythm! Thanks for sharing!

Dunno what to call it..enjoyed making it :)

  • @studs1966 great house tracks, my drums never sound that crisp on iOS.

@AndyPlankton @Bluepunk cool collaboration, kind of genre bending!

Still checking out more tracks on here, this thread can get out of control fast if you don't keep up with it from the start.

  • longside those of the ‘technicals’ used. You know with:

‘Novation Circuit’ I couldn’t work it, and ‘Korg Electribe’ was impossible to describe, because ‘Ruismaker FM’ caused mayhem, down in ‘Galileo’ to the exhaust of my Renato Clio. Oh yeah, ‘Rock Drum Machine’ from Aberdeen split my fucking spleen, and don’t dare mention when you dropped the ‘Kauldron’ that broke my neck like Bert Trautmann, (had to get one in there). ‘DDMF Envelope’ gave brief hope, but a ‘Kosmonaut’ dumped a Tomahawk, missile and all the while, ‘Wave Folder’ gave me the cold shoulder, and ‘Dubstation Two’; the flu. ‘Waves Q10’ from Phnom Penh, and ‘Maxima’ (just south of Panama) formed chronicles of eczema, on my sack of lack.... due to ‘VoiceRack.’

Fabulously dancy music. Sack the singer.

Reviews to be written in rehab. Strewth Andy! :)

Young thruster...LMAO wait til I tell the mrs.

What do you mean tell her? What’s up with you young pups! :)

That depends on your answers to these questions:

    1. Will you be crying like a baby at 21.30hrs on Wednesday night?

    2. Will you be (under) selling my Astra LS alloys on Scouse Bay at 21.30hrs Wednesday night?

    3. Will you be rifling my wallet at 21.30hrs next Saturday night as I sleep soundly in the free bed at your free B&B after we’ve dealt with the moodymou quiet neighbours and won the League?

    4. Do you snore? Stupid question. Scouse genes.

    Tricky eh? :)

  • @AndyPlankton Oh. Almost 150 clicks in a couple of days has me rethinking my strategy.

    1. Will you be taking one sugar or two with your peppermint tea, at 21.30, after gorging on a pizzary of pepperoni, bought by me...... full of glee?

And there are park benchmarks for resting purposes. Failing that, a police cell reunion Julian, so thanks anyway. :)

Now, can I get on with listening to some real singers down here please? Strewth again! :)

  • @AndyPlankton, that is such a cool combo of some old school punk, and electronica. Mix is amazing. Love the layering of affects on Blue’s voice. The horns are great; the entire arrangement is brilliant. It just keeps moving and changing, while driving hard. Intense, in a very good, very fun way.

  • @Joel75, great sounding track. Mix is excellent. Young lady’s voice is superb. I love the flow of the piece, you have a lot of interesting textures/sounds that come and go that really work with the flow of the piece.

  • @dbecker, That’s different. I like it. Was almost shocked when the flute came in; sure is a nice flute sample, very breathy. Sounds like a shakuhachi. Could maybe use some rhythmic breaks/bridges to keep it moving, and it’s a bit long for me, but a very good track.

  • @theconnactic, Dimitri sings! Nice job, I love that song. Nice sparse, mix, though I think some reverb would have not been out of place. Love the percussion you come up with.

    1. Nah, you’ll be crying come Wednesday not me ;)
    2. The alloys will be advertised as being from a BMW to try and increase profits.
    3. If your wallet is like mine, there’s no point rifling....I think you will take the league on sat....it’ll help make up for losing this Wednesday.
    4. Yes
  • @JohnnyGoodyear, well, I'm a chord progression and melody guy myself, so your submission is in a different ballpark than I'm used to playing. Having said that, I did really enjoy the drums/percussion, and I noticed that they varied a bit throughout the piece. I'm also enormously impressed with the ability to write that many lyrics, with so many internal rhymes that I picked up on. (I refer to rhymes that occur with a phrase rather than at the end of a phrase as internal rhymes). That's something that I try to do, but really struggle with. I also kind of enjoyed the kind of "wailing/singing" that was going on in the background. Any criticisms I could give would honestly be about the genre of music and not with the production or performance, which I thought fit the genre perfectly.

  • @theconnactic, your acoustic guitar playing is absolutely top-notch! Just phenomenal technique without getting TOO flashy. I thought the mix of guitar and bass was quite good, really nice warm bass sound that complemented the guitar. The (homemade?) shaker and keys fit in well. Vocally, the harmonies were excellent, but I think the solo voice could probably use a bit more polish, some in pitch, but more in timing. There were some spots where rhythmically the vocal didn't quite jive with the music groove. Nothing jarring, just barely noticeable. I think I'm detecting a bit of the room sound coming through on the voice, which if you're using a bedroom or otherwise untreated home room, might be something you'd try to minimize. I record all my stuff in a home office with a tile floor, and nothing makes my voice sound more "amateur" than the sound of the room. So I threw a bunch of rugs down, filled up the bookshelves, and sing really close to the mic. With a touch of reverb (or delay) and a nice warm compressor, I usually end up really happy and feel it'd be difficult to tell the vocals weren't recorded in a professional studio. Just some things to maybe think about when recording vocals, but all in all a great submission!

Be sure the dog will always return to his vomit.

This was wild, the vocal style and processing was on point.
On first listen I just thought it was stream of consciousness but I see someone referred to it as a story so Ill have to try again listening harder, either way it works.

  • @DBecker, that was really cool! The title is great; I had visions of a bunch of people dancing around the streets of Casablanca late at night. Love the bass line and the shuffle groove, it's a really "fun" sound. When you started bringing in other synths around 2:30, I found myself thinking some filter modulation would be a nice touch to give some movement to those sounds, but the delay on some of those sounds (especially the "harpsicord-y" one) is awesome. I would absolutely add some reverb and delay to the pan flute type sound in the first part of the song, and maybe push it back in the mix a bit. Finally, maybe play around with a few different endings. I was thinking strip everything away except the bass and drums (or even just one of those), and either do a fade-out or come up with a cool rhythmic figure to end the piece with. Great first submission!

Thank you for the excellent feedback, @Joel75, really spot on: the vocals were recorded before everything else, and then, after recording the instrumental, I noticed some timing issues, but since they aren't really much severe and editing them out would be really tedious, I let them as they are. The "room" you think you're hearing is the effect of Holusai 2's noise reduction tool, since the environment was quite noisy when I recorded the vocals. Thank you for the compliments about my guitar playing: it really means a lot!

Thank you a lot, Rick! I agree with you about the reverb part.

  • @JohnnyGoodyear, wow. Dunno what else to say. What a story. Great mix and feel.

  • @richardyot Middlesbrough East Drums and a cello...hello. Never been formally introduced, and now seduced, by its induced boost, and words Proust, (hope her name is pronounced that way) would tranduce, and wished he’d produced, on a roof, in goofy Goole. Any song with words of water is a number oneerer in The Poxy. There’s a word I’m looking for. I’ll find it from this lot:

Hypnotic, aquatic, erotic, narcotic, patriotic to euphoric, historic, electronic orchestric, symphonic, melodic, kaleidoscopic, psychotropic, philosophic? (I think so, but Phil of Suffolk doesn’t...weirdo) and eventually melancholic.....That’s the one.

    Rhapsodic. No more. I’m a bore. B+ :)

Wow thanks, I'm speechless, or is it wordless?

  • @studs1966 Chose the mix of saxophone on this gram of phones, as a chaperone, to a weekend away in Cologne. Your microphone is not alone, and with a substantial loan, of ankle bone, to join in with myself in the uncontrollable dance zone, I’ll still be here, to cheer without beer, next year/month in front of your decks, breaking a neck. How much was the cheque?
    B+ :)

  • @Bluepunk hi bro!
will you make your great video reviews?
Im big fan of them ;)

  • @LostBoy85 Oh Shevaun, you were born, to forewarn popcorn, you’re now mowing the lawn. So please tell Adele to go to hell, adjourn to complete her tax return of no concern, because YOU are the Queen of Yearn. Leo and you, are so true, use similar shampoo, to breakthrough C-lean Don mildew, and you give the crew: Hugh and Lulu. I cried...a lot. Did you? B+ :)

  • @rickwaugh Agree re blanketry. The Salish. The Sally Army, in particular Ernie, was not on Safari in around ‘93, but every Saturday, a wee lorry full of happy, warmy blanky’s for alcy’s to sleep under germ-free, chugged from Pub, to bench, to gutter searching for cold spots. Freezing back then. More sea stuff, can’t get enough of salty seaweed fluff. Beautiful bass (bass) plucked by a plaice. Can pick it out among the tasty trout. No matter there is no chatter, the percussion is the discussion and your organisation chart, of imagination and art, is my sweetheart Rickoleon Bonapart. I am not intelligent and know nothing of history so if he was a baddie, please forgive me...... on second thoughts.. B+ :)

  • @fattigman Peace, Love, Ukulele, Melodica. Same to you and yours. Reggae sung in snow, of temperatures below, minus thirty is crazy. But your family band is always at hand to start the art. It makes me smile, and all the while, the happy is clappy. Infectious in the solar plexus, admire the level of ambidextrous, and the your feel and knowledge of strings, but mainly the joy that it brings.....Always. B+ :)

  • @gmslayton Sun and darkness? Where’s the light Mitch? In the ditch? Incredibly moody, credibly broody. The shed in the woods, full of black goods. What are you cooking? Life insurance pudding? Is that what you’re pushing? Priority Policy for Psychiatry? A simmering, shivering, whispering, tittering bling thing. B+

  • @trackedout So you blizzard a lizard, and Majorca an Orca, in an attempt at contempt of the stiffness of the business, because they won’t take a chance, are reluctant to dance, to a loose moose. Yes, antler planter. Transplanting enchanting slashes and gashes of horn porn, inside my pride, and jelly belly. The fact a very loose moose called Bruce used to sit at the same deli in New Delhi eating beating root, makes the break ache cheesecake. Brilliant drumming got me humming. B+ :)

  • @Bluepunk thank you. Always fun to read/watch your reviews. I always learn some new english words from your reviews too

  • @Joel75 Hello Joel. It’s been a while. Sing along please. It is a well known tune:

‘City nights’, I’ve had a few,
But then again, too many to mention,
    Your student, is ultra prudent,
    She sings so well,
    So pleeeese tell her.
She did, what she had to do
    With help from you,
    Her voice is sea spray,
And now, much more than this,
You and her did it Yooooooouuuuuuur.......way.

    Top pop. B+ :)
