Audiobus: Use your music apps together.
What is Audiobus? — Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.
Download on the App StoreAudiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.
Is the flanger effect outdated?
I was using the Launchpad app and saw the flanger IAP and thought to myself, “I think it might have been 20 years since I last heard this effect being used.”
Or am I wrong and it’s still used a good bit?
Comments
I use a flanger pedal on my guitar loads so it’s not outdated for me mate
i love it on bass. more interesting than phase and chorus for me- if the rate's down. can also be good for getting a bit of formant too
The flanger in Launchpad has several modern tricks up its sleeve.
It's one of my favourite effects - for guitar and synth. You don't often hear it though.
Just used the flanger in Turnado on a bass in a track a couple months back. Worked wonders.
I agree it's probably used less in the obvious ways currently, but it's still a valid effect.
I love it. So probably.
The Electric Mistress pedal is one of the best effects ever.
Within Nave flanger does lovely things!
Put a flanger on everything in the mix and let the fun times begin
Is anything ever outdated if you use it effectively?
NO
How old are you guys?
No. I don’t want any answer.
But yes the flanger is outdated. It works with guitars and guitars are kind of outdated.
It's a delay based effect so we hear it used all the time in one form or other.
Old enough to know better... consarnit.
GET OFF MY LAWN!
Once u go chorus you never go back
Good enough for The Cure, good enough for me lol
I've just been playing with Dublin in Gadget with the decimator, flanger and longish delay effects- sounded great
I'm losing my edge
The kids are coming up from behind
I'm losing my edge to better-looking people
With better ideas and more talent
And they're actually really, really nice
but isn't it a great word? flaaange
Hmm, I guess the flanger must be a British thing then
it's killer on bass, can be used sparingly to make a bass fit in a mix better.
Especially the MXR 1970's rack - insane on analog synths
Flange usually sounds terrible to me, when I try it, but there are some interesting, modern sounds to be had if you can turn off the sweep, and just park it in a sweet spot, as a weird comb filter effect. For that it's nice to have the choice between positive and negative polarity for the wet sound.
Stepped lfo flange can be nice as well as the other, more unusual lfo waveforms, like the S/H, random, triggered/envelope, and other fancy waves.
I used two flangers at the same time on this one. Hope I didn't break any laws:
Good enough for Steve Jones, good enough for me.
Wow, those were the days!
But what to think of the Rainbow Concert and that epic guitar solo starting at about 2:50 of the following clip:

Ain’t that the truth. Railed against it for years, then one day...something happened. Chorus forever
Guitars outdated, good one.
Yeah. Outdated like Moog Synthesizers.
