OT: Tom Petty dead at 66
I'm having a real hard time with this one. I have been listening to Petty since the first record and I've got all his stuff. Crazy....

Yeah, I always respected Tom Petty for doing it his way, no matter what. A true rock ‘n’ roll rebel and great talent.
Wow
nonononononononononononono
Man, this sucks.
Definitely one of my favorites. Thank you, Tom... and rest in peace.
Fuck
Rest in peace!
Has this been confirmed yet?
The news outlets are reporting that it has been, but I've not seen an official statement by the family or the band
Ok - just read that the LAPD can't confirm his death: http://variety.com/2017/music/news/tom-petty-dead-dies-heart-attack-breakdown-1202578132/
Dylan introduced him in Adelaide in 1986 as 'America's greatest living RocknRoller '.
Sadly, it appears as this may no longer be the case.( although still awaiting confirmation).
I fear the worst, but it's kind of odd that none of the major news outlets are reporting his passing... yet.
Reuter's is still with the TMZ report that he's still clinging to life...

My friend mentioned that he thought it a bit strange they turned off the life support in such a hurry.
Clearly none of us have the full story. Looks like it'll be a nail-biting 24 hours or so....
FWIW, as of 10pm last night, the BBC, ITV News and Channel 4 News all failed to run this story. So much for up to the minute news.
If he’s still alive and has even the remotest chance of returning to a normal life, I hope he does. He’s a legend.
It’s apparently now official, his manager stated it and his website now reflects it. I wasn’t a huge fan but you have to respect him a lot. RIP
I’m thinking of all the great tracks he did, especially ‘I Won’t Back Down’. ‘Cause he didn’t, no matter what the company men tried to pull. Always the rebel, always putting the music first.
I particularly loved "Running Down a Dream" - he will be missed. RIP.
Petty was definitely one of the icons of his generation. There are only two surviving members of the Traveling Wilburys.
He was a class act and a gentleman.
Just think about his string of hits. Then think about all the tracks that either didn't make his greatest hits album or came afterwards. Wildflowers came out after his greatest hits and was possibly his best record. The dude wrote Stop Draggin' My Heart Around for Stevie Nicks. His band backed Bob Dylan for a tour...
This is a colossal loss.
Sad news. Have been playing the album “Into The Great Wide Open” today. May he Rest In Peace.
Yesterday was definitely a tough day to be an American.
And Tom was only 66 too, what a shame. I was lucky enough to see him on stage once a few years back. Dude really brought it.
It is one of life’s sad ironies that many of the worst, drug addled well past sell by date rockers are still plodding on, but someone as vibrant and productive as TP gets taken away just like the snap of cosmic fingers.
A very sad loss Just for the record,. I will point out that Petty was a former heroin addict.
