saw him live on the "Tonight's The Night" tour.

Nice. I still haven't seen him play live. I had tickets to see him play about 15 years ago at Brixton Academy but the show was cancelled because he had a sore throat. Should really make an effort to catch him before it's too late.

  • @studs1966, what, that's not you singing? I'm so disappointed. :D nicely done, as usual. Great production and mix on this. Is the electric sampled or live? Disco never dies.

  • Harvest is an absolutely brilliant album, soundtrack of my life kind of album. That song still makes me emotional, after all the years, and all the listens.

Thanks @rickwaugh. Electric is sampled/chopped/repitched & put in an oven for 40 minutes. :D

  • Apologies for uploading before commenting. Planning to vid review a few of your scrumptious songs this month so getting this out the way first.

Someone around here planted a word into my topsoil.... 'ballad' (ssshhh). It took root (kind of), began to grow (kind of), got eaten by caterpillars, and died slowly. oh well. Flat as fuck and sharp as shit but had to give it a go... had to. Guitarism + iFretless Bass + REd Snearan.

  • @Bluepunk the angriest ballad I've ever heard... BUT, I am enjoying your newly found love of melody. The vocal melody at the one minute mark is great! Some of the singing is even in tune, with just the odd stray note (nothing a few more practice runs of the song wouldn't fix - sing the song a few more dozen times and you'll be fine).

The second half of the track is definitely more alive and engaging than the first, but the dynamics are cool, but that second half is really good - you could tone down the snarl a little to make the melody shine through a little more.

Not sure what the farmyard references are about, and to be honest I'm afraid to ask...

Keep on doing this, it gets better every time.

Far too kind and you're right about reigning in the second part. Tried it in fact but couldn't get the tone to sit somewhere in-between sing and snarl.

Yes sorry, should've explained in the intro. The song is based (loosely) on someone I know well from the local branch of The City Supporters Club who had their heart ripped out recently. The 'Old MacDonald' animals are the names matey once labelled the cheaters. Sad............. for the animals involved.

+1 across the board. Agree that vocal melody is very strong in spots, and the dynamics are effective, and the "gets better every time" bit too!

  • Mine for this month. Will post my reviews soon. Cheers!

This is by far my favorite offering from the Blue Punk Factory (and I've liked most of them). Seriously good and a structure and all. But the Gaffer's right, the bit that kicks in around the one minute mark is in danger of powerpop meets the unknown grungier side of the Beach Boys. Oh, you're laughing now, but double (tripe/quad) track that vocal and you'd have something gorgeous. Yes, yes, practice and nailing and all that, but I can see and hear this played on a big stage. They'd be some unreasonable people in the middle who'd get their lighters out and hold them aloft (in old money), but we'd soon stomp them and keep on with our somber looking fiercensss. Did i mention I really like it? In fact the only critique I have is about you being a git for getting your homework done so early in the month....well done. Swot.

Thanks very much. Was fun trying to sing... for once, and in doing so discovered many vocal limitations that require working on. Joining a choir may help with these. Cheers. :)

It has taken 2 odd years (and Pep only knows.. how many swear words) to make a tune where 'Melody' plays a part.... small part yes, but important. You and The Boss have forced me into another vocal recording down the line and receiving such positive, encouraging comments proves the value of this Club. Without it, singing would've stayed in the shower. Mmmm.
'Ballad' singing homework with polished Granny Smith handed in. Vid review work with 'LumaFusion' to begin. And thanks for THAT fucking word as well. :)

  • @Bluepunk I listened 4 times on the bounce, 2 minute tunes are good for that. Totally engaging and was trying to get a grip on the story.
I got the idea a dog was being taken to the vet? It was gradually getting quite angry at its surroundings. Almost falls apart around 40 seconds in but finds its feet again suddenly.
Then melodies kick in after 1:01
A warning to hand borrowed stuff back into the library but it's closed, because of council cuts? Then a bulldozer is tearing down the high street.
A chaotic trip up to the town centre is what I get from it and as I said, totally engaging. Made me think of an angrier Carter USM.
Melodic hooks and memorable 'left behind' line. Good stuff mr Punk.

@theconnactic Lovely clear production. Takes me to sitting at a table at an open front Mediterranean restaurant, Drinking a glass of wine and pondering on what the protagonist has done. An edge of melancholy and regret. This tune paints vivid pictures in the mind.

Nice, glad you liked, @DefRobot! Thak you!

Another 'melody' comment and I thank you. Party at the Punks tonight in celebration. All welcome. You bring up a point that I'd never fully appreciated before. I try to write lyrics based (again, loosely) on people and their personal experiences. What I should be doing is 'generalising' so you 6 poor souls here could at least understand what the hell the song is about.

4 times on the bounce? You have my sympathy. Thanks again. :)

Nice work! I just spent my lunch break sifting through guitar rough takes for the song I'm working on, trying to comp together a descent sounding couple of tracks. I'm a pretty sloppy player, so working with as many guitar tracks as you have here would make me crazy, so I commend you. Very clean and articulate playing. Karma has a lot of emotion, very well put together piece.

  • edited September 2017

Thank you, @Shaken&;Stirred: in fact, it was just three guitar tracks (if you count the cavaquinho as a guitar). I’m lazy, I don’t do comping usually, just hit record and play the parts. Glad you liked! Cheers.

  • @Bluepunk, can only echo the above. The production values are very good; mix and sounds are good. You get that somewhat manic, punk edge very nicely. It really does just need some performance polish.

  • @theconnactic, that's a lovely piece of music. You slowed down. :D Some interesting chords in there. Structurally, I might have liked another section that was a bit different; a key change would work well in there. Also not quite sure about the electric guitar tone; bit too rapid fire warbly, maybe? Not sure, this was my second listen, and it was fine the first time through. :p

  • Here's a few vid reviews folks with more to follow... Unlucky. Using the same Continuity Supervisor as 'Acorn Antiques' did wasn't the only production issue here. Having to use an 'alcatel PIXI' as the sound source (because I screwed up the uploads from SC) hasn't helped the sound quality of your songs.. Not. One. Bit. Sorry. But it is a Punk review. And to top it all off, Sid won the 'United to win bet' we had and chose to warm up with a chat about 'Love' to his mates (The) Buzzcocks. My subject matter will just have to wait. Dogs eh. They win every time. Bloody right. :)

@Bluepunk Above all you probably have the most fun of all of us because you don't take yourself so seriously...of course a prerequisite for most any artisté musician.

I always dig your stuff even if sometimes half way through you leave my Nevada born American ass quite confused as to what the fuck the lyrical content means, lol. And I'm no stiff, a too liberal democratic socialist who was raised on Python and other BritHumour my Dad would turn me on to...you just go DEEP! Great stuff.

The wife and will be staying in Shepherds Bush from Dec. 2nd to the 17th, so if need be you can straighten me out then.

@theconnactic Dimitri you have a style that's simultaneously eclectic but very singular and unique at the same time. The slight dissonance of the effected lead guitar adds to the melancholic feel...a very good production, all elements clear and the mix balanced and full.

A lot of people just don't give instrumentals a chance, but the SOTMC always has examples of how sometimes vocals are not needed for a song to reach someone. @DefRobot felt the emotion you were putting across, I did, and if listeners give it a chance they will too. Very nice track man...

  • You Sir make the Hatter look like a sober silent fellow hoist upon his own stultification and you have more energy than an adolescent tomcat with a serious speed habit.

    Lucky man, :)

Thank you. Could save you a fortune on any site seeing trips you have planned while in London. Have a few small canoes left before the shutters go down for winter and to kill two birds etc, if we bribe someone to row, your wife can admire the scenery while we recreate The Pistols Jubilee Boat Trip down the Thames. It is something I'd like to do.... again. You?

Now get your bloody song in :). Us punters down here need to hear some 'Nevada born American ass' music.
