Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Does it matter where effects are placed?

While fiddling around with (way too many) AU instruments and effects, my iPad took a dump and upon opening my DAW, I realized I forgot my instrument settings so now that awesome sound I had created will never hear the light of day again.

You guys recommend putting effects directly on a midi track or better to export to audio and apply effects? Will there be a difference in sound? Does it save on processing power? Are there any other pros or cons?

  • In Cubasis I freeze the track which creates an audio sample with all the effects, love it!
But then I disable the track with the synth and effects to conserve CPU. Being on an old Air 1 teaches you to be coy frugal :)
