Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

First Beatmaker 3 beat (rough mix)

In this track I used Gadget (Montreal, Dublin, M1, and Odyssey) with Audiobus, recording midi patterns in one Bank and recording them as audio loops into another bank. Then I jammed realtime on the mixer to record the first track. After the foundation was laid I recorded the melodic lead to the song arranger, edited and quantized it before recording that as a second audio track. Final export was converted into MP4 in AudioShare. The mix is rough and it's not really my most loved track, but it is the first! Had fun making it and I'll probably continue to use this kind of approach, see what it can lead to. Definitely need to work on getting things like Eq and compression sorted out... Thanks for listening!

  • Very cool!

  • Nice track, got a nice melancholy vibe going.

  • Listened to this one twice. Really like it.

  • I think this is terrific...but why was BM3 necessary for this production? Couldn't the same result have been achieved in Gadget?

The grid in Beatmaker is just a better tool than the miniature keyboards in Gadget, especially when you start using scales, note repeat, velocity, sustain and modulation. I love Gadget, especially when used with a controller, but something about laying ideas down on a grid and manipulating audio fits better with the music I want to create.

    Thanks for the kind comments!

Oh, that's very cool. So Gadget used in the manner of an Ableton Push? Very cool indeed. That's neat.

Yep, in fact the best part is saving loops into Banks because that material can then be used in new ways. In Gadget alone you can't really do that, not on iOS anyway, because of its lack of file management. Stay tuned for more :)

  • Awesome! Really enjoying the groove!
