Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

Anchor for improvised music every day.

I haven't posted here in awhile, hi guys.
I was curious if anyone else has been doing things on anchor.
I hadn't written or "finished" anything in a long time, so after listening to podcast on anchor, knowing that content on there only lasts for 24 hours, I thought it would be a good motivation to make music every day.

So i have been doing it for the past few weeks, and am amassing a ton of new tracks.
All improvised, but some are coming out great.

If you guys have anchor channels, post some links in here, would love to hear if anyone else is using the platform like that.

  • New improvised track using Xynthesizer, SynthScaper, and GlitchBreaks https://anchor.fm/alex-matheu?at=464534

  • Another new track using iWavstation, Elastic Drums, TC-11, and GlitchBreaks https://anchor.fm/alex-matheu?at=470032

So, no one else is using anchor like this? You really should try it and check it out, I would love a bunch of audiobus people's tunes to listen to daily, and it is quite motivational, anyone, anyone?

  • I'll look into it. But am I right – whatever I post is gone in a day?

  • I posted in this thread yesterday.

There is an option to make it stick and stay on your channel. It really shines when you start using the app. It is like radio / podcasts, you favorite a channel and then open the app everyday to listen to the new content.

For me it begs me to create content everyday. Your content goes private and archived for you after one day. What I really like about it is how easy it is to record a quick segment talking about anything, and post it. It is a really low barrier to entry for getting something recorded and pushed out. I think it would be great if some of our music app journalist types would create anchor channels for commentary on iOS app news, but also I think it is a great outlet for us creating new music. When you use the app and listen to things, you can submit a "Call In" which the content creator gets as audio, and can respond to, and include in the channel. Also now you can leave comments, and the content creator can record "Shout outs" to listeners that them and their friends (People they follow, I am assuming) can listen to.

You can also make an episode from your daily content, doing so puts it out on their delivery network to all the podcast places, itunes, google etc... I haven't tried that yet, but it is free and there.

It is meant to be used by podcasters, news people that deliver daily content, but I think it is great for us, which I don't know about you, but typically when I am working on a song, I have a ton of iterations, and end up playing it for people all the time. I am currently using it for to motivate myself to make improv tracks everyday, but when I sit down to work on a release, I can see using it to talk through different iterations of tracks, posting bits and pieces, and getting feedback, if anyone is listening that is.

As a creator you can see who listens and can follow them back (if they used the app) otherwise you just see web listeners.

I really love what they are doing, and hope they keep adding features. Imagine if they added Audiobus support and let you record directly to the app from Audiobus... I would love that.

To put prerecorded audio on your channel currently you have to do it from a computer, they are working to be able to do it from the app. Otherwise you can quickly live record the mic and it goes right into your channel.

I have been exporting from AudioShare to iCloud Drive then opening my browser on my MacBook and going to anchor.fm/clipper I believe (click the link that says upload audio) when you are signed in, there it lets you upload edit it, and add meta info

When it is in the app it will be ideal

I have been trying to convince Jakob and Ashley to make anchor stations, you guys should help me convince them!

Also I am asking anchor to add Audiobus / IAA support

  • All the links seem to point to the same track, the latest one. Is there a way to listen to the older ones?

I have another new track for you, this one using Auxy, SynthScaper, and GlitchBreaks https://anchor.fm/alex-matheu?at=481435

Not currently, only if I archive them, but I have a new one every day :)

Bummer, kinda wanted to hear what you did with SynthScaper. I like this latest one :) Any particular reason you used SoundScaper instead of SynthScaper? I ask because I'm on iPhone, so I have FieldScaper, but not SoundScaper. Thinking about grabbing SynthScaper, excited he made that one universal :)

Oh, and I already have GlitchBreaks ;)

  • Thank you!

I used SynthScaper not SoundScaper, was a typo :/, I made the latest one stay by making it an episode, I have been using iPhone primarily for these tracks, since it is kike a camera, best tool for improvised music is the one that is with you.

I am going to be adding some of the precious tracks back into the channel and making them episodes as well.

Just noticed SynthScaper doesn't have Ableton Link yet, though in a comment here he replies he's planning to add it

What did you do to keep everything in sync? I was assuming these recordings are all live jams

  • They are live jams, but the sounds I am using with SynthScaper aren't tempo based, I am using AUM, Audiobus and then putting them together in Multittack DAW, which I need to find a replacement for that has nicer import export

  • And here another one

New track called Perst using iDensity, Korg iKaossilator, TC-11, and GlitchBreaks https://anchor.fm/alex-matheu?at=488338

  • I like the idea of this (and the music), in practice though it's frustrating as I want to listen to the older tracks!

  • What did you do to keep everything in sync? I was assuming these recordings are all live jams

Oh I forgot to mention, for sync I used the metronome in AUM :)
