Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Download on the App Store

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

Tried three videos. Will only load 50% than says unable to play file? Unrecognized file format
    Any idea?

Just out of curiosity, did you try the m4a downloads?

Figured it out for what it's worth :)
Deleted my youtube app, then launch into youtube from playerxtreme and there's the target for download options! ;)

  • I use iCab Mobile browser for these (and many other) things.
Highly customizable browser, never use Safari myself.

Imagine you want some bird sounds in the background of your song. You can go outside with a field recorder or just search for a nature doc on YT and sample some bird sounds. Its handy for sampling all kind of things.

Obviously, don't do any of this unless you actually own the material in question.

  • Anyway, this is what I use for downloading anything.

    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/documents-5-file-manager-pdf-reader-and-browser/id364901807?mt=8

Then I can send stuff to Audioshare. If I need to send multiple files to Audioshare, I simply zip them and send the .zip file. Audioshare can open it in the main area, or I can move the .zip to another folder in Audioshare and unzip.

This is called the art of sampling.
Have you never lisened to Shadow, Jazzanova, Amon Tobin, Forss, Avalanches, Skalpel or any Ninja Tune stuff ?
Here is a great example what you can do by only using samples and create something completely new.
One of the best sample based albums i ever heard. :)

Thanks. I still don't see how downloading the audio from a YT clip and putting it on SC would be beneficial. Obviously the "sample the shit out of it and put the samples in your own tune before uploading THAT to SC" was the part I missed.

How did Soundcloud even get in this thread? That is the part I still continue to miss. :)

Because it says so right...ther...ther...scrolling frantically...ther...umm...right. Up until your question my brain apparently has read "AudioShare" as "SoundCloud". Dyslectic reading? Imagination? Tired? I think I should rest my brain and shut up now. Sorry. ashamed :)

  • Talking of sampling, is anyone a fan of Girl Talk? I particularly like his "All Day" album. He puts it out for free to avoid any copyright stuff.

I'm not usually a fan of mash-ups but this I can listen to, er, all day.

Hehe, you had me double checking too.

  • Great tip. Cheers

  • Works great, thanks!

  • Step 1
    download Workflow app (for free)
    https://itunes.apple.com/app/id915249334

    Step 2
Dowload free screept (tap the 'get workflow' and open it in Workflow app)
    https://workflow.is/workflows/6a1ac55bdb8445f9bf5367ad62a0c57d

    Step 3
Open YouTube app and tap (1) "share" - (2) "more" - (3) "more" again - (4) "run workflow" (see spoiler)

    Step 4
open any video on YouTube, tap "share" and set "run workflow"

    Bingo!

  • FYI: the PlayerXtreme app referenced by @AudioGus in the OP is free at the moment. I wasn't sure how I'd use this but I just used it to grab an old Orsen Welles wine commercial, them opened in AudioShare as the OP outlined and now I have a sweet Orson Welles sample. Cool :)

Does anyone know how to tell if an old video or documentary, etc. might be considered to be in the public domain and legally free to use?

Oh cool, glad it is still working as there have been a couple updates now and I have not tried it lately.

As for old timey public domain stuff, you can check to see if it is on archive.org, which is a great source for such things.

  • Having trouble with PlayerXtreme after last update. Despite deleting, re-doenlosfingbsnd icing Restore Previous Purchase, whenever I dismiss the app and relaunch, I get adverts and an invitation to watch a video.

Thx. I first tried just saving .m4a that opened with a flat line in AS, but I tried again by downloading the mp3 version and it worked fine. :)

Wasn't able to download via URL (using Archive.org) even though I know you can just download the video direct, just wanted to see if it worked via PlayerXtreme. However, if I simply hit the PlayerXtreme crop tool, designate the specific few seconds I want, I can then save that cropped clip and that WILL open in AudioShare. Sweet! :)

That sounds really promising, especially the cropping BEFORE downloading. But can you search from within PlayerX? Or do you need to know the URL beforehand?

And now I have "we will sell no wine before its time" looping in my mind.

I haven't tried, but I just copy URL from safari and it automatically shows up in the URL window of PlayerXtreme.

Again, it's free right now, but the ability to quickly/easily crop just the snippet you want, save and then export to AudioShare would be worth paying for to me. :)

Quoting an older post here, but that is hit or miss - doesn't usually work for copyrighted songs. I do use workflow to download YouTube videos from some vlogs I enjoy or product reviews if I'll be in a place with bad connection and time to kill.

  • I remember this original thread. I'd marked PlayerExtreme on AppShopper. Didn't know if I'd ever need/want it, but noticed it had gone free. Decided to share that info.

So far, my first three attempts have been successful and more useful than I originally thought it'd be. Just passing it on. :)

  • Q..is it possible to crop vids after you dL them with player extreme?

  • also, strange I don't get the option to download, I see the play button but were is the download button?

  • at least figured out using the crop feature but after it says that its saving the cropped clip to the library, I go to the library and there are no clips??
