Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

iPad Metronome App with Multichannel out Selection or AB Compatibility?

I have a metronome app called "Tempo", which I really like, as it lets you create set lists and advance from one to the next very easily in a live environment. But now that I have an iCA4+, and am running multiple apps simultaneously, I'm finding I need to have the metronome sound directed to a different output channel.

Does anyone know of a metronome app suitable for live use, with set list function, that plays nicely with multichannel, or with Audiobus (so I can route it to MiMix and set the desired output channel)?

  • The metronome in TonalEnergy Tuner's latest update now has setlists (called preset groups) and it supports Audiobus and IAA. Plus Ableton Link. Give it a shot! I have been meaning to post a news item here about it, but haven't yet.

  • Thanks, I'll check it out.

I came across "Pro Metronome" which looks like a good candidate as well. It seems to have all the features I'm used to with the "Tempo" app, but is AB compatible. Practice mode vs. live mode is an example.

Having the ability to create a preset for each song, then build a set list is valuable for me. I'd say there's a few hundred songs I play on varying rotation, so having them pre-set in the app allowing me to just add whatever songs are on the setlist for the day/night would be really nice.

iPad 2 would be the oldest, iOS 8 minimum. We went too long between updates on this one, hence the long list...

    Oops, thanks!

  • We bought a piano last week. Was thinking about buying an iPad 1 to leave permanently set up atop it with TE and Funkbox. Don't really want to buy an iPad 2 so I guess I'll have to buy the new iPad when it lands and retire my 3 to piano duties. Thanks for that. :)

  • I picked up a used iPad Air (version 1) for $125 off craigslist, and have it dedicated to my pedal board rig. It seems to work great for any app I've thrown at it thus far. Apparently it has a faster processor than the iPad 4.

If you can find a used one, it could work for you.
