Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Best Indian instrument apps? (Tablas,Sitar,ETC)

I have been really getting back into Indian music lately, Ravi Shankar on repeat etc...

Just curious what this forum thinks are the BEST apps with Indian instruments? The tablas in Thumbjam are not terrible but I know there is more out there

It hasn't been updated in ages, but it's a classic freebie.

This is $25, but it has good reviews: http://audiob.us/get/158/iTablaPro-Tabla-Tanpura-Player

    EDIT: There's also a free lite version - https://itunes.apple.com/app/id919001492

Haven't heard of the rest of these, but you can check 'em out: https://audiob.us/apps/search/tabla

  • Drumjam has some South Asian and world instruments.

  • I love the drone of the Tanpura app! Here's the free version you can try: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/itanpura-lite-tanpura-player/id327862615?mt=8

Different Drummer has quite a few, and is terrific for tabla, really does well with them, imho. Just jammed with some a few days ago

  • Hi Gaia! All Kalyan Studio Apps have apps for indian instruments, they are currently the leading company in the market and use only live recorded instruments. Please search Tabla Studio (for live tabla loops), Lehra Studio Pro or Ultimate (for live sarangi, sitar, santoor, flute, harmonium, sarod, esraj loops) and Tanpura Studio (for live tanpura). You can try all the apps for free for 3 days!

SwarPlug AU by far has about 80 high-quality instruments with many loops:

    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/swarplug/id1137879159

Here is my composition of some Fusion music on Cubasis from a few years ago when there was no Screen Recording on iOS so I just used screenshots of Cubasis as a slide show (did not use any loops here except for Tabla even I could have composed my own Tabla in MIDI):

I'll re-upload it soon with screen recording of instruments playing back to my new branded channel at youtube.com/MobileMusic

SwaPlug 4 for desktop has Legato. SwarPlug 3 in iOS lacks legato. Developer confirmed they are working on v4 for iOS that would have legato soon. But it is still the best implementation of high quality instruments in an app with AU so you could record in editable MIDI - using loops or your own compositions !! Works great in Cubasis, GB, etc.

  • SwarPlug is a collection of samples. You won’t get an authentic Indian sound out of it. The loops are all played on a midi keyboard and basically suck.

GeoShred and Animoog are the best iOS apps for idiomatic Indian performances.

SwarPlug is currently v3 on iOS that doesn't have Legato, Glide and Vibrato. Dev confirmed Legato exists on desktop VST. I requested them to add these dynamics to iOS version and they said they would introduce Legato in v4 on iOS. Haven't heard from them about Glide and Vibrato yet. Once these are implemented, it should sound better. We can record our own notes without having to use loops.

GeoShred and Animoog (?) are modeled and sound better with legato, vibrato and microtones but these are not AUs while SwarPlug is and records editable MIDI. Also, Geo Synthesizer, iFretless Bass, ThumbJam, BeBot offer some dynamics but with all these apps, we should be able to play and perform.
