OT Beatstep pads

Hi,
I am about getting an Akai mpd218 ,but looking at Beatstep (which has 16 encoders) I was wondering about the pads quality. Can you hit them hard without feeling you reach the plastic bottom ?
I had the trigger finger pro and although the pads where soft ,they didn't have much height and on hard hits I felt hitting on metal covered with silk...(hope you got it!)
