Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Download on the App Store

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

App manuals database

Hi, is there a consolidated manual page for apps? WE should do it if not. Pdf or jpg even text is fine. I just get frustrated when looking whilst playing iPad app. anyone feel me. I posted the analog kit one as a video...

  • I'm not sure if Music app blog has a list of manuals, or just developer sites? I have searched the web for them there manuals, and I have a big collection of them. PDF'd.

I can give you the sites, or just the PDF's of the ones I have. :)

  • Agreed. Maybe the AB submission form, presuming there is one, could be expanded to include a manual link?

  • Excellent idea for a repository.

  • Yup, Great idea, amazing nobody thought of it before now.

  • Careful with PDFs, like paper, they have persistence and will continue to hang around and exist long after they are out of date. Best to have a canonical page of links to the current master PDFs in each case, rather than store it yourself.

Back in 2012 I suggested this to iOSmusician website. I believe it was started but the site stopped being updated.

It's pretty easy though to locate them on the web and download them. I've got a huge collection accessible in my iFiles app.

An accessible repository would be great though.

Maybe this could be the next step for http://www.musicappnews.com, along with design improvements? Hm, you got me start thinking :)

Yes, it for sure should be! It's not too bad scouring the net for them, but, if they were all in one place, or at least the links, that would be swell...... :)

  • Without wishing to blow an idea I'm currently hatching, I’m reasonably surprised that there isn’t some form of SaaS specialised into providing an app’s user documentation control. If it were desirable (and open source) enough, it’d be where app manufacturers get their documentation control work done, using a best practice approach.

    The advantage would be:
No stupid diverse range of guesswork as to which format an apps manual is going to be (although, mostly PDFs it has to be noted, but is that the best way for this day and indeed age).
A good place to focus on what works and what doesn’t in terms of structure, pacing, approaches to explaining things, and, I’d better stop there.
A uniformity of expectation of how to get at information and how it is handed to you.
An effective way of updating and disseminating changes, additions and amendments (at the moment, an app manual may have edits, but you’d never know or be inclined to look as you’ve already suffered it once).
And above all, fostering community created best-practice ways of making manuals and documentation refreshingly compulsive to both create and consume.

As I say, I’d better keep this vague, from my end, for now.

I've found going to the developers site via the app's App Store page and then finding the PDF manual on their site is fairly reliable. The better apps have a link to the manual from within the app that gets updated when the app does. Some apps use built-in help from within the app or have a web page for the manual rather than a PDF.

It is nice to have an updated manual in PDF as it is often difficult to use the built-in help while trying to use the app at the same time or to get a sense of how the app works as well.

  • This would be a great addition to Audiobus' s site or any other. I always Google the manuals for the bigger apps, most are in PDF on the contact or help/service page of the developer. There are a few that are online only and screenshots will accomplish a ghetto manual.

  • Think the main problem with any sort of externally curated library is link rot. I reckon the only way this would really work for our community is if it was included in the AB database where developers keep it up.

That along with some of the sort of best practices stuff @u0421793 is talking about could be a big win.

Big thing for me is that manuals should be able to scale (PDF or HTML) so that you can read them easily on your phone or in an iPad slide over.

A standard for URLs would be handy too if the AB repo doesn't happen. Like, http://developer-site.com/app-name/manual

I think we're going to need a sub-committee. And a Golf Day. And sponsors. Perhaps some of those special little shirts. And name badges with that extra bit of red ribbon at the bottom

  • Not sure about the extra bit of ribbon. Badges might need a sub-committee too.

  • Badges? We don't need no steenkin' badges... I think this group would rather have...(wait for it)...Patches!

Two points. One for now and one for Ron.

  • As side note (or a completely broken-down car off a lonely desert highway): I was dickering around with putting together a manual for GB newbies (iPhone) due to my learning curve experience, where I attempted to use a typical workflow to explain the functionality (because some of it was not obvious at first); but that being yet another whim project & the new version of GB appearing, well there ya go.

    As you were.

  • One quick question to all reading this:
How many of you have an Apple TV 4?

Okay, that’s the market research done, next task.

I've got one, use it for Youtube, Netflix, play silly games, 'Screen Mirroring/AirPlay', Pictures, Internet TV/Radio, 'Home Cinema' for streaming media from my NAS among other things...

Connected to same Wifi-Network in the same room most of the time.
Sometimes I hook the AppleTV to a Projector and connect it to the hotspot on the iPad.

I prefer to 'consume media' on a bigger screen :)

  • No tv here. I usually go the other way, size wise: docs up on my iPhone while fiddling with the iPad.

  • wow, I'm out of the loop. my bad

  • I think there’s a future in a] separating the screens or devices (or even as many of us already to, separating OSs) and then (which isn’t done much as yet), connecting or real-time interacting the app and the documentation.

  • Such repository would be helpful if we talk about abandoned apps which sites could be already non-existent without needed copy in webarchiveorg

  • Here is my contribution in case i forgot...https://youtube.com/watch?v=XAkf4swYc14analog kit video manual: just in case you are in a pinch of sorts, but your homie has the inter web....
Oh and this is a demo with direct in Moebius lab but iPhone voice over.... Its not my normal 'pro style' but acts as a sorta quick shoot thing. For learning a little but basically to get my friends psyched about iOS.
Oh and ignore tape hiss intro.... https://youtube.com/watch?v=d3qPlMeMTCAI just hope you can hear what I'm saying over the music ok.

  • Perhaps a you tube manual database isn't as silly as i thought?
