Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

iOS 8 launch and app compatibility

We're a couple of days away from iOS 8. I just read the most recent Audiobus email on the topic. While I'm going to take my sweet time to update, it would be nice to be able to refer to a single place for app compatibility. Perhaps a sticky topic? A sticky topic that points to a public Google Drive spreadsheet?

This list should have all the entries up to date http://www.audiob.us/ios8/

Still quite a few great apps that are not on the AB iOS 8 train yet. A bunch I'm pretty confident we will see jump on sooner rather then later. A few older ones I'm not sure about at all. Anyways it's still early days for all that stuff, I guess we'll see in a few months who's still with us, and what apps perished under Apples ruthless regime..

  • I hope Geo Synth gets updated, although I also know that one day it will inevitably fall by the wayside. Shame, as it's a really great instrument.

  • If an app isnt on the list, does that automatically mean that it wont run on iOS8?

    It won't work with Audiobus.

Actually, it's a shame that there isn't some sort of legacy mode to support the older AB SDK. Perhaps there are technical reasons for this, but it does mean that we are bound to lose a number of apps in the transition to iOS 8.

  • Noooooooooo........

  • Just have to keep a couple of legacy ios devices :)

  • This has been the chief thing that has had me considering going back to hardware somewhat. Hardware will last 30+ years (if taken care of), but software is always going to be at the mercy of the device (battery life for example) and even more so at the mercy of the OS upgrades.

  • Thumbjam...check

    Loopy....check

    Gadget.....check

    Audioshare.......check

    major DAW........NO?!

Only 2-3 days left and zero DAWs? I've always ignored the update warnings without regret but I think I'll have to sit this one out.

  • edit: Actually we have MTS and Nanostudio

Auria and Cubasis both have iOS8 and AB updates wating for review with Apple since a week ago or so.

Slightly OT, I did the "mistake" and went over to read about iOS 8 on Macrumours forum. And apparently it's one of the most buggy releases people have seen. Also very laggy in the graphics/UI department, slow(er) on even the most current gen devices like iPad Air/5S when it comes to a lot things apparently. They all used the GM build, but should be the same as the one being released tomorrow.

Anyone else with the GM installed that can share some opinions on all that?

  • I still can't understand how the 'kings of marketing' do things like this... Is there a point in it or they simply can't design new software?

(I'm not a developer nor I know nothing about programming.)

I wouldnt give to much about macrumors,

Ppl there complain if the Facebook app is slow, lol

If you make music on ios you have very specific needs that these people don't look into ...

They think it's multitasking when they have 3 open browser tabs

  • @lala - I saw the same news the other day from an iOS music app dev. So, not just macrumors facebook and browsing ;-)

Be very cautious with updating to the new version of iOS. Make sure that all the apps you rely on work before you take the leap - maybe you can test them first with a secondary device.

Also something from our from our latest newsletter:

Right now there's a bug in iOS 8 on cellular devices (that's the iPhone and iPad WiFi + Cellular) that stops Audiobus from working when just connected to a cellular network. If this happens to you, simply turn on Airplane Mode, or make sure you're on a WiFi network. Devices without a cellular radio are not affected. Apple have been made aware of the issue, and we hope a fix will be out soon.

    Meh, I'm not scared.

I'm talking to a lot of dev., l haven't heard anything to bad yet.

If there are big oopsis 8.0.1 will fix it.

    Will report back

@sebastian: Can you please auto post the newsletters here? I don't read newsletters. And I don't follow everybody on twitter.

  • Auria submitted their update yesterday.

  • Someone else emailed IK, here is their lame response-

    "Hello,

    Thanks for your email.

It will have to be when iOS 8 is released.

We do not have any news on an update as of now. More news will be released after the iOS 8 update.

If you need additional help, please reply to this email.

    Thanks,"

  • Call you tomorrow ^^

    Inelegant corporate poetry:

    "Hello No

If you'd like me to say No again

    Please reply

    Thanks."

Apesoft stuff is out anyday ...
If I would know what's happening in tempo rubatos lab i'll be happy

  • @sebastian (and anyone else with the GM) What's your opinion on iOS 8 in general on the rMini/Air (can't remember what device you had)? If not looking at apps not working due to compatibility issues, just the OS in general. Does it seem to use more RAM, have you done any stress testing to see if iOS 8 GM can handle about the same amount of synths, stuff, porn and whatnot? Also, are basic UI things more sluggish and so on?

  • I'd say people. Don't panic. You've been using your ios 7 rigs for a year now. You're happy with it? Keep it that way. Wait until the storm is over. Let's not behave like a bunch of fanboys. Just saying.
