Audiobus: Use your music apps together.

What is Audiobus?Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. Route MIDI between apps — drive a synth from a MIDI sequencer, or add an arpeggiator to your MIDI keyboard — or sync with your external MIDI gear. And control your entire setup from a MIDI controller.

Audiobus is the app that makes the rest of your setup better.

MitoSynth was submitted last week on Friday (the 13th) to Apple, so hopefully we'll see this one either this week, or the next. I'm really pumped for this one, it sounds great, and the interface is beautiful. And the dev have a great track record with apps like Hokusai and Grain Science.

From the website:

MAKING A NOISE

At the heart of Mitosynth is the Wavechamber. This is like a big vat where you pour in audio and mix it up. You can feed into it from a built-in additive synthesiser, you can record new samples right within Mitosynth, use any of the waveforms supplied with the app, or import your own from other apps using standard tools like AudioShare and AudioPaste.

You can also use the prefilter, which syphons off sound from the Wavechamber, applies an effect to it, then pours it back in for further mixing. In total a patch can have 32 pieces of audio in the Wavechamber. Each one can be mono or stereo, single-shot or looped.

Each voice has its own Wavechamber — the audio in the chamber is the same for all, but the blending can be different for each one. The results are then modulated (again, per voice) with your choice of modulation mode, and only then are the voices mixed together and sent through the subtractive-style, programmable global FX chain.

The FX chain lets you install the effects you want (multiple times, if you like) in any order. Just tap “add fx” and pick one out. Simple! The chain ends with a high-quality reverb unit for giving your audio that sense of vast space (of course, you can bypass it if that’s not your thing).

This is a powerful audio engine that you can easily tailor to your needs. But it’s only one half of the picture.

Highlights:

  • Almost any dial in the system can be controlled by MIDI CC, velocity, XY pad, or sophisticated LFO, noise and envelope generators.

  • The noise generator alone probably deserves a special mention, allowing for both dramatic and subtle effects from light audio grunge to tape wobble to trickling liquids.

  • Feed your audio with wavetables, samples, additive synthesis and prefilter.

  • Voice modulation: AM, PWM, Phase Mangulation, and Supercharger unison mode.

  • A dozen effects units, including filters, crushers, warm fuzz, phaser, tube resonance and chorus. Install up to four in any order — plus a high-quality reverb to round things off.

  • Performance mode featuring XY Pads and fast access to your favourite patches.

Also featuring:

  • Customisable keyboard: key size, scale (blues, pentatonic etc), and either regular piano keys or expressive “ribbon” controllers supporting individual velocity control.

  • Polyphonic pitch glide, as well as standard hardware keyboard-style mono glide, allows you to glide entire chords, or individual notes within chords.

  • Normal, Toggle or Latch sustain modes. Supports MIDI sustain pedal.

  • Single-shot or looped audio sources, and non-destructive loop softening to make click-free loops out of found audio.

  • Install the same effect multiple times with different settings if you want.

  • Built-in performance recording.

Making life easier:

  • Copy and paste control values from dial to dial — including complex automation.

  • Quickly search your patch and audio libraries for a word or phrase, or tag them for quick access.

  • Easy tap-and-twist MIDI CC learning, and tap-to-tune imported audio.

  • Comprehensive manual built in to the app, or available for download, for printing or reading on another device.

  • On iPad, supports landscape or portrait for all modes and features. On iPhone, hold in landscape for full-size keyboard and performance controls, hold in portrait for patch editing, library and settings.

Fitting in with others:

  • Background audio to play alongside other apps.

  • Compatible with Audiobus: stream your Mitosynth audio to other apps.

  • Use AudioCopy, AudioShare, Dropbox or iTunes File Sharing to share your recorded performances, and get sampled audio in and out of the app.

  • Core MIDI and Virtual MIDI for controlling Mitosynth from hardware or other apps. You can also link velocity and MIDI CC to individual synth controls.

  • This looks really, really awesome.

  • the Big One for June

  • OK just read the specs on this - WOW.

  • The dev actually submitted two apps (according to Woojis official twitter). I wonder what the second app is? An update for one of their other apps? Or something completely new? MitoSynth is obviously the big one this month, so I'm guessing it's an update, but who knows...Is very exite!!!

  • Some of those example sounds are amazing!

  • I know right!

This is going to be the bestest app ever made. I know I said that a few weeks ago about another certain red app, but this app is blue. And we all know blue apps are so much bester then other apps. OMG what a party this is gonna be...I'll bring the blue balloons.

  • For the Apple ninjas lurking on this forum. Starting next week, I shall execute one of these hostages for every day you delay the release of this magnificent app, Monday through Friday...Eenie Meenie Miney Moe, and Arnie.

  • I hate cats, but really, don't just start killing them, cause the dev. indicated he hoped to have some videos up when this is released. So whenever it does hit the AppStore, it may not be entirely up to Apple, Canis might be waiting till he is ready.

  • Ok, I'll put them back inside their jars for now..

  • Make sure to tighten the lids all the way so they don't escape!

  • No lids. It's something I picked up in China, let's just say they can't move, and makes for great ornaments. Aaand moving on!

  • ...and the cats say ME...OW

  • Please don't hold any of my anti feline comments against the developer of this fine application.
    Although his name is Canis....

Also, if you have to love 'em, then sample some meows and bring it in to Mitosynth for further processing. I did that with the toads out on the ditch behind our house, and got some wild sounds by mixing between two separate recordings plus some synthy sounds.

  • That was a mean trick putting the landscape photos after the portrait ones. I was relieved to see landscape mode!

  • Apparently released the 26th:

Wouldn't mind if Wooji already put the manual online. It seems deep.

  • Nice! Hope he's right. Latest tweet when I asked Wooji today was "not too long to wait now :)", so looks like it's really close.

  • By the way, Cinebient is making a free to download 200 presets bank for Mito. Sounds really really good. MitoSynth itself will ship with 100 presets at release.

    Cinebient MitoSynth bank:

  • edited June 2014

My MitoSynth Library....I release for free after is out...

  • @Sinapsya Sounds really amazing, looking forward to playing with those sounds. And that's a great track!

  • I'm drooling.

  • @ChrisG Track is by Cinebient ;-) but thanks....

  • Awesome!!!

    Yea just noticed that lol.

  • Is Cinebient aka Galaxy Explorer?

  • That's him.

  • Wow, I didn't know that Cinebient was Galaxy Explorer! His GE work was amazing!

  • Yea, added this to the topic title. Please don't kill me if it doesn't show up :(
